USB port expansion card need driver

For those PCIE cards that add additional USB ports, do they need to install driver in Windows before they can be used?

If so, does this mean that these additional USB ports on the expansion card can only be detected and used after Windows has booted up and loaded the driver?

all add-on cards require the mfg driver to function properly

Depend on the chipset model, some may have drivers within Windows, some need drivers from manufacturer.

For detection in bios, need to check if your board uefi bios supports the usb add-on card chipset, otherwise won't be usable.
