Hi Folks,

it is me again with my legacy old mobo question.
i was trying my luck with my old Biostar system ====>>
surprisingly booted up...previously many problems....

was trying to run memtest86....so i bought this 32GB sandisk stick from shoppee....
i DL the program as per what recent youtube videos shown.
do the bootable usb.

but nothing happened upon booted....
thinking maybe my mobo couldn't accept 32GB stick, I redo another one using 8GB. But still doesn't work.

Previously, I use the same 8GB to install Win 8 and I reconfirm the stick can be properly booted up to Win 8 installation before I rewrite to become the memtest86 boot up.

I did a google and some mentioned about the usb only works with UEFI.
My mobo is old type and doesn't seemed to have this UEFI thing.
Some mention need to disable USB Legacy mode in BIOS.

What could be the issue here?

Which version of Memtest?

- Memtest V8 is for new PC with UEFI BIOS.
Without UEFI BIOS it won't boot, just black screen.
- Memtest V4 will be the one you should use.
https://www.memtest86.com/download.htm
(At the bottom of the page.)

oh.....i see...

I just land onto the main page and there is a white color DOWNLOAD tab....(right side is the orange "BUY MEMTEST86 PRO".
I think that is the latest version....

I try V4 and see....Thanks!

Maybe one of the RAM is faulty, you can try one by one to
check which is faulty.
*Not recommended to mix ram with different frequency.

i know it is better to test one by one....but i lazy to remove the ram. :s13:

seemed like the test not so consistent....i run the 3rd time and saw no error at the same time point.

i experienced BSODs and sudden froze screen on the Biostar before....and seemed like symptoms same as the Asus mobo in which i install Win 10.
so thought of doing memtest on the biostar mobo as well.

so if clean system, the memtest will show zero errors? the test seemed to take very long. will be about 2 hrs judging from my 2nd run.

Hi Folks,

Apologies for the delay. Was trying to be sure so I didn't update so soon.
In short, the problem went away after I reseat the 2 ram sticks...of coz I clean the contacts and air blow the ram slots before reseating.

Flashback....before I took out the rams...I encountered another BSOD and upon restart the system become very laggy and I check and see 2GB ram missing.

Upon restart again, suddenly got this error (shown as below youtube video).
I google search and this video throws up.

So, further affirm the rams needs reseatting.

Anyway, this also solve the problem on the below thread opened by me a few years back. I had thought the mobo had failed but seemed is revived now.

https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/hardware-clinic-2/encounter-bsod-after-repeated-windows-update-failed-5723988.html

This BSOD occured due to insufficient ram and I over push the system memory usage without knowing thereby causing the system to crash.
In short is USER problem. :s13:

I believed this is what caused the Asus M4A78 PRO mobo (the one I installed Win 10) to display the same symptoms.
I had decide to shelve this PC for the time being since I now have a workable stable PC to work on.

Thanks for the all help rendered!
