Think Powell's comment on Friday...

Powell so far has been very dovish. But I'm skeptical whether inflation can fall when oil price is still going up and with all the shipping disruptions. Barring another Pandemic black swan event, I can't imagine the price of oil will fall or even maintain current levels.

Demand won't fall much unless the whole world moves to EV overnight which is impossible. The move to EV is over many years. But Saudi arabia and russia can always cut production overnight to raise the price of oil.

He was somewhat hawkish on Friday.

didn't know this. I thought he was dovish like a week ago, that's why gold shooting up. it's really puzzling.

He was not as dovish as he was for the past 6 months. He completely removed "expected to see rate cuts this year" from his speech on Friday. Which is odd.

He has been consistent in all his speeches while also careful not to use specific words that can influence the markets.

Got to watch how the bond market moves later. Today EU markets are closed so, no early signs of which the bond market will move or not.

Are you referring to the Port of Baltimore? That port will be closed for some number of weeks, but there are no significant issues rerouting cargo to/from other ports. Baltimore handled some fairly specialized roll-on/roll-off cargo (such as farm equipment), but Newport News (Virginia) and the Port of New York and New Jersey reportedly have the capacity and can handle that type of cargo, too. Brunswick (Georgia), Charleston (South Carolina), and Jacksonville (Florida) can also pitch in.

None of the analysts I follow think this'll be any material issue economically.
