Use 2wire 2701hgv-e with starhub cable

Hi,

I am on Starhub cable and want to use 2wire 2701hgv-e with starhub cable for the wired and wireless features since I have the 2wire.

I searched thru' the related threads and do not seem to find the answer.

I have tried the following but it does not work:

a. Plug a RJ45 cable from Starhub Motorola Modem SBV5121i to the Broadband port of the 2Wire 2701HGV-E modem

b. Configure 2wire Connection type to be Direct IP

c. Uncheck the routing box for 2wire

I saw somewhere in the forum that this does not work for software Version which is v6 and above. Is it true?

Anyone can advise? Thks.

Did u connect RJ-45 to WAN or LAN port of 2Wire 2701HGV-E?

What do you mean by "direct IP"? U should set it to DHCP if available

What do you mean by "direct IP"? U should set it to DHCP if available

>> It is the option in 2wire -> broadband -> link configuration tab ->Connection Type. The options are Direct IP(DHCP or Static), PPPoE, PPPoA or Routed IPoA. So, it is already set to DHCP when Direct IP is selected...but it doesn't work...

Check your 2wire firmware, if it is V5, then it can be used as a router, but if it is V6, Singnet firmware has disabled WAN router connection function and it cannot be used on Starhub line as a router, it only can act as a wireless Ap point ( to connect Starhub cable to the 2701HGV-E's LAN.
There is another chance for this 2700HGV-E modem as a router with V6 firmware to used on Starhub connection, you may flash it with other firmware and try, but do it at your own risk.
There is Qwest firmware to download. the URL is:

http://www.qwest.com/internethelp/QA/modems/2701/popup_update_win.html

Please note, there is no Singtel V6 firmware to download, so after do that you cannot revert back to Singtel firmware.

all can be used. (wireless and ethernet ports)

note: mine is v5

For the V6 modem, since it cannot be used as a router for Starhub, by connecting LAN from starhub modem ( persume no router function one) to 2wire LAN, you can only connect 1 computer to the internet, be it on LAN connection or wireless connection.

2WIRE as a Router on Starhub Internet Connection

Tools used:
1x Rj45 cable
1x SB5101i
1x 2WIRE 2701HGV-E with FW 5.xxx
1x notebook

configure your 2WIRE router first

Internet Browser > Home/mdc or 192.168.1.254/mdc (password: 2wire)

Broadband Link > Configure: > Follow as of image

Advanced > Configure Services > follow as of image

once done with the above settings, hook up Starhub Motorola Modem to 2WIRE via:

1. Starhub Modem > Ethernet line to 2WIRE Broadband port
2. Reboot Starhub Modem (off it and wait for approximately 10s before turning it on)
3. wait for all the LED of both the Starhub modem and 2Wire modem to be lighted up.
-----Starhub have to have all leds lighted up especially the "orange" 1
-----2WIRE by now should have

• Stable Power LED
• Stable Broadband LED
• Blinking Internet LED

go back into your 2WIRE gateway page (actually once you open up your browser your webpage will load already - below are just for illustration purposes):

Internet Browser > Home / gateway IP address you will see something like this:

congrats, you are connected.

both the LAN port or wireless can be use as is like a normal router.
connect your other devices via either wireless or wired connection

Your 2wire is on V5 firmware and can be used for Starhub. If the modem is on Singtel V6 firmware,it cannot be used as a router. need to flash the non Singtel firmware.
