Using iPad with macmini

i have a iPad mini & a macmini, the Mimi is use as a music player.
I wanted to use the iPad to control and view the media player in my mm.

Can this be done successfully.?
What are needed to implement this.?
Btw I don't use iTunes..using either JRiver or Audivarna

Read up the VNC apps but not sure this is applicable.
Anyone has successfully applied this?

If you use iTunes, you could use iTunes Remote found in the App Store (IIRC, was a free app).

Alternative solutions, I don't have an answer I'm afraid.

i use Plex, it's free on the mac but the iOS app is not free.

Just my opinion, the Plex interface and features are superb, just add the contents to the Plex library and it will do everything else.

Jus to explain that I want to use the iPad to remotely control the mm and play the music.
with this.. i will no longer need the screen and keyboard.
The music will be played via the mm and not the iPad.

If that's your only requirement then use iTunes on the Mac and install the Remote app on your iPad.

Plex is rich with features, not just music management. Helps you catalogs your movies and TV shows etc.

You need to install the Plex Server on the Mac to host the Media contents. Then you'll need to install the Plex client apps on the other devices(Mac/windows/iOS/android) to stream the contents, best part - you can stream it even when you're outside of your home network(4G or other wifi)
