Using the new iPhoto: I have issues and need help

I'm confused and frustrated with things I can and can't do when using preview and photo on a mac running Yosemite.

Problems with Preview...I like that I can save photos to a specific folder and find them. But it seems I cannot crop them (the most common thing I need to do). So that forces me to save pics in iPhoto.

Problems with using iphoto... after I import photos to iphoto I cannot start an email and then attach pics in photo. Maybe I'm just not smart enough but when I click attach from within mail I don't see "iphotos" to go find and select the photo I need. If photos are saved to iphoto what is their actual location?

Any suggestions for me? I don't want to save photos in multiple locations.

Thanks,

You can crop pictures using preview.

also iPhotos is no longer going to be updated. Update to the latest version of Yosemite to use the new Photos App.

did you click on the right icon to bring up sharing of photos in the mail app?
it should be this.

Petpet...You are right and I had never tried it. I assumed the only attaching function was under the paper clip symbol. to me this is odd but at least now I know how to use it.

Thanks,
