Hi guys, thank you for all your replies :D

After considering the options and their prices, I think I will temporarily go with the chromecast first and not game on that screen (Just watch videos and surf the net). Might consider getting a raspberry pi or some other sort of small thumbdrive PC for it in the future.

Thanks again :):)

Edit: Just to check, Chromecast requires my desktop to have wifi capabilities right? (Currently using homeplug for my desktop)

If yes, do you guys have a cheap wifi router to recommend?

Thanks!

Hi Gurus,
I bought one of the miracast/dnla dongle for my old tv set (useless once go digital :( )
Can stream from my phone as wifi display.
Question is can i stream from my notebook running XP?
Is there a miracast driver for XP?
or splashtop also can?

Appreciate any tips.

install splashtop on android and windows PC. The android will connect to TV.

Once you can see your windows desktop on TV, press windows + P and select extended.

On your android tablet change to second monitor output

Think u need 8.1

Also if your laptop wireless is old, I don't think support WiFi direct.

i have VGA cable wired under my floor 7 yrs ago but now vga is almost obsolate

so my current solution is another htpc from my gaming rig or use chromecast like most pple here reco...

going more in-depth with HTAV digital surround sound passthru it is impossible to do with chromecast

my workaround now is using universal media server, and use my smart tv to detect dlna sources and play wirelessly. solid surround sound in the air literally. the only problem this is i can't get sound codec using aac to work.

cheers
