vga hdmi (for awareness)

Was at SLS and witnessed another guy looking for "hdmi-to-vga" cable
then i went over and advised that guy to forget about it, because the cable alone doesnt work; what he needs is vga-hdmi converter, not cable. i also told him that such converters cost quite a fair bit and typically half the time the conversion signal will have issues, so scrap the whole idea and stick to vga-vga or hdmi-hdmi. then the guy said ok will go n change his old monitor and thanked me and left. evidently he had an old monitor with only vga (at at most dvi) input while his video source is hdmi. although i saved him from wasting time looking for a cable that does not work, he will now have to spend more $ to buy a new monitor with hdmi input lol

just want to provide useful info for all, pls be aware that vga-to-hdmi or hdmi-to-vga cables alone do not work because vga is analogue signal whereas hdmi is digital signal. u need the converter and such converters sometime will have signal issues. thnx for reading~

1. There are cheap DVI to HDMI and HDMI to DVI adapters/cables
2. That's a tricky one.
   Firstly, the monitor.
   Some 27" monitors/TV have HDMI ver 1.3 or 1.4.
   Dell U2713HM has HDMI 1.3 and Dell U2713H has HDMI 1.4.
   Depending on the color depth and refresh rate, HDMI 1.3 may not be able to support 1440p.
   To make things worse, there are HDMI 1.3a, 1.3b and 1.3c.
   Secondly, the adapter itself.
   It needs to support the high frequency needed, depending on the color depth/refresh rate
