VGA LED remains on

Hi guys,
I turned on my computer and everything seems to be running fine. Used it for like a minute and suddenly the screen froze, and vertical lines appeared as well. From then I could not see anything on the screen except those lines.

I forced shut down my computer and noticed that the VGA led remains on. I removed my graphics card and booted the computer but still no change. Could it be a motherboard problem? Does replacing the motherboard rectify this issue?

Computer specifications :
Intel i5 - 2.80 Ghz
Asus p7p55d-e pro
Radeon HD 5580
PSU 620 watts

Thanks for the reply! but why does the LED still light up when I removed my graphics card and booted up my computer?
