I recently bought a Xiaomi Monitor (https://www.qoo10.sg/gmkt.inc/Goods/Goods.aspx?goodscode=684642366).

Xiaomi only gave HDMI - HDMI cable. As my computer does not have HDMI port, I bought this item which is a VGA to HDMI adapter (https://shopee.sg/1080P-HDMI-Female...Cable-Converter-Adapter-i.60587222.1110019521). However, it does not work.

Did I buy the wrong item or is the product I received faulty?

If I bought the wrong item, may I know which item should I be buying instead?

Thanks.

You bought wrong thing liao.
This is suppose to be
1) PC to HDMI Cable
to
2) Adapter
to
3) Monitor VGA Port

Your computer doesn't have hdmi port, but does your computer have dvi port at least? U should be using that instead.

Dvi port is almost the same electrically as compared to hdmi, so a dvi to hdmi cable works in most cases.

Think some do not know DVI either VGA/HDMI only.
DVI is the white color with 24 pin connector.

Thanks. I am not at home for the moment so can't check if it has a dvi port. If it does, do I purchase this item? Since it is 2-ways, I doubt I can get it wrong again.

If it does not have a dvi port, then should I just get a VGA to VGA cable instead? Pretty sure I can't go wrong buying one of this too cause both sides are the same?

Thanks.

Ah crap. Would you mind linking to the correct product I should be purchasing?

Thanks.

Either get a VGA to VGA Cable
or
VGA to HDMI Convertor

Of cos VGA to VGA Cable will work best.

DVI is the white color with 24 pin connector.

From your image, both the white and blue ones are dvi ports.

The blue one is DVI-D only ie does not support VGA.

The white one is DVI-I which supports both DVI-D and DVI-A where A means analog. DVI-A allows VGA signals to be passed out via the DVI port with the DVI-to-VGA adapter.

DVI-D is the digital only DVI, which is the one most compatible with HDMI, hence can use a DVI-to-HDMI adapter here.

But I must stress that both the white and blue DVI ports will support HDMI, while only the white port supports VGA.
