How do I get to Hue City?

Hello all, I intend to go to Hue City around May this year to see the hitorical monuments.

I intend to fly to Vietnam via Jetstar first before making my way to Hue. I found out the nearest airport (that Jetstar offers) to Hue is Danang, but it doesn't seem like there's any flights in May.

Can I find out which would be a nearer way to Hue, is it Hanoi or HCMC? And what are the ways I can get there? Thank you very much for your assistance ^^

Jetstar Vietnam operates a route between Hue and HCM City. There are flights between Da Nang and HCM City in May.

Thank you very much, beanstalk6 ! because this is my first time travelling to Vietnam alone (Previously I've been to HCMC) and I am not sure if I can make it by myself, but I want to try. I understand simple Vietnamese but probably not enough to sustain a conversation.

So it seems like the possible route could be Sg --> HCMC --> Danang --> Hue.

Although in the Wiki link provided it states that there are domestic flights from HCMC to Hue, I guess I would have difficulty trying to buy the tickets on that day itself.

The taxi ride from Danang to Hue seems expensive :X 40USD, but then again I am not sure how far is Hue from Danang. Is that the usual price, if you have taken the cab before?

I visited Hue using the Open Tour Bus. I traveled from Hanoi south to HCM City with a buddy. Hanoi-Hue-Hoi An-Da Nang-Nha Trang-Mui Ne-HCM City. Check out the Hue-HCM City flight too.

Oh, thank you too. That seems like the open tour bus beanstalk6 spoke of. Hehe that is definitely more affordable for me compared to 40USD

I think you have to call jetstar to book for muti cities booking

It has flights directly to Danang and inclusive of hotel too. I am probably gonna go and check out and see whether the tour agency is reliable first, because the deal seems really good

I guess since Hue is a tourist area so most ppl would be able to speak simple English am I right? Too bad I can't go during the Hue Festival.

Why not HCM City-Hue direct?
The palace in Hue is interesting. Hoi An is a charming town with a rich Chinese history. Da Nang, in my impression, is a beach town.
Giamso has been around for at least 30 years. This is quite a long history for a tour agency.

because when i went to the Jetstar webbie and did search for flights from HCMC-->Hue, there were not any results shown for the month of May. And then secondly, coz the package at Giamso includes hotel too, so I thought that's quite a deal since everything has been packaged already. I wouldn't know how to book the hotel separately coz most of the hotels' websites are in Viet.

But another idea that I have would be to situate myself at Danang as a base and then go Hoi An and Hue on separate days. ^^ I estimate I would stay about 5-6 days.

Foodwise I am not sure what's available, I don't exactly like to eat pho, but I guess I can look for rice dishes when I am there.

Too bad, Hue has been taken off the list of destinations apparently, even on Jetstar Vietnam. Otherwise you can fly to Hue and return via Da Nang, thereby saving 2 duplicate trips. Accommodation in Hue are listed in agoda.com and hostelworld. These sites are not in Vietnamese.
You can tell by now that I am a stickler for self-guided travel. Com is anything that comes with rice, in the same way that pho is anything with noodles.

Thank you, I feel so glad that there are many helpful people around this forum to advise me. I went to 3 tour agencies just now during lunch time to compare the prices. They quoted me $500++ for SilkAir airfare(Sing-Danang), whereas if I take Jetstar from Sg-HCM-Danang, it will cost me $300++ which gives a substantial saving of $200, which I can spend on better accomodation or something.

I guess I will book the hotel separately from the tour agency. By the way, has anyone tried to do multi city bookings with Jetstar? I must call them to make the booking right?

Hi there, will be heading to HCMC in a few weeks. Bringing family with kids. Any hotel to recommend? With a swimming pool if possible so that the kids have some activities since I understand that HCMC isn't too child friendly?

hoi an is in central vietnam and not in HCM.
understand that tailor made clothes require some time to be spent on fittings etc etc, so need to set aside a few days if you plan to tailor clothings.

one more thing.. i know that it is illegal to trek without a guide in sapa, but how often is it enforced? is the lao-tavan route suitable for self-trekking for newbies?
