Asked the Tour agent, different agent may not be the same.

Is Hanoi airport crowd as bad as HCMC if arriving late morning or afternoon?

Went HCMC last Oct and the crowd at the airport was worst than BKK. Took 2 hours to clear customs. Even during departure was bad. Glad we arrived airport 3 hours before returning flight and still got time to explore the airport as well as grab some food.

I went Hanoi end of February, reached at about 4pm local time. I cleared immigration in 10 min. but I waited for luggage for 40 min.

Arrived at Saigon in this afternoon 3pm local time, used 30mins to Q and clearing customs, luggages already there ready to pick up

I did not spend 2 hours, went to toilet after leaving the plane, joined Q with about 20+ people Infront of me, only took 30 mins to clear. Btw, I arrived HCMC at 3:05 pm

I arrived in the afternoon too, earlier than u and got a shock 😲. Planned to have something light after drop luggage but end up checked in at 5pm so have dinner instead.

Your trip last October, maybe now the custom been improved, I just got here on 18 Mar, 2 days ago.

Found out that using wise card payments for Grab transport also incurred foreign card fees (4%) in Vietnam although the amount is so small.
