4 days 3 nights.
Depends what u wanna see.

Mekong delta already 1 full day.
Cu chi tunnels & Cao Dai pagoda 1 full day.
If you wanna visit Vung Tau. Another day gone.
Left 1 day to visit hcm city is abit too rush.

thanks, i'll do mekong delta... and i'll consider vung tau.

i won't be doing cuchi.... i'd rather explore outside D1 like D5 Chinatown and etc

But do take note.

August , sep & oct r moonsoon period.
U will see msia? Thailand, Vietnam, HK, Taiwan & japan r prone
To monsoon period.

I always travel in aug.
and my recommendation is early August will be safer
Than late August.

It's their rainy period (starts from May all the way till End Oct)

Aug and Sept are their potential typhoon periods...on average every 2-3 weeks will have typhoon warnings.

Any sea storm forming in the South China Sea between Philippines and Vietnam pose a typhoon threat.

The typhoon pathway usually comes in from either:
1) quite Nhon / nha Trang moving inland towards da lat, bao loc or Tay ninh
2) typhoon sweep along the south-east coast line... From nha Trang all the way down to vung tau

That's why room rates and air tickets traditionally cheaper during this period

In Dec 2017 Xmas, I was stuck in HCMC due to a rare end of the year typhoon, Tembin.
As the typhoon was moving along south Vietnam, sweeping through Ca mau, moving towards Phu Quoc.

Vung Tau only a few attractions worth visiting.
Like the Jesus statue which u must climb up to his head.
To see the nice view.

Beach not very nice. Quite dirty.
One day trip is enough if u short of time.

Just sharing.... Last year end of Nov, I was lucky that my flight was not grounded due to typhoon Usagi...

One week before your trip between Aug to Oct... Check the typhoon info website.
There are a few.... The one which I always use is

I always make it a point to avoid hcm from early Sept to end Oct. To be safe, after mid august don't travel there. Every where rain and cant go out. Can only roam in malls or stay in hotel. Will be flooded as well.

Yeah I checked. Aug is rainy season and I'm going during that period.
August 9 to 13. Hope weather will be ok there. Fingers crossed.

bro, are you familiar with the HCM domestic terminal?

as my domestic flight is 12.40pm, so have to check in say before 11am.
after that, where can I go for lunch? otherwise reach nha trang /hotel will be 2-3pm
there are 2 young kids .....


1. There is a cafeteria inside the domestic terminal but cannot recall are they selling "lunch" kinda food. Last visit was Jan 2018.

2. Or, say we check in luggage before 11am and got our boarding pass, can we go out of the terminal for food since all the restaurants are outside.

3. other options? like buy fast food go thru custom check?

i went to watch Netflix street food after i saw your post. quite touching to see how some (or most) vietnamese go through all odds to give their next generation a better life....

doesn't sound like my parent's story but more like my grandparent's story during jap occupation

damn. I thought of wearing sneakers there with a pair of jeans incase I want to go restaurants or skybars

Mine case is different. i stayed there 2 days 1 night.

for 1 day trip. Take the earliest ferry. 8am.
Reach Vung tau around 10am.

Jalan jalan for 1 whole day.

Then evening latest bus 7pm back to HCM. (reach early to catch the bus)
Bus terminal u can google it.


Ferry stop at 4pm for wkdays i think.
only week ends will extend to 6pm or 7pm..i can't remember.
u can google it.


Weekends usually super crowded....try weekdays better.


Vung tau no need tour booking.
Transportation is quite easy & available.
Travel around vung tau use grab bike or grab cab.
