Dining at restaurants present tremendous value as compared to sg. But there are those that chop carrot head also. I normally avoid roadside stalls unless it is michelin guide/recommended, lest I run the risk of diarrhea, to ensure my trip is not affected.
I go HCMC often for 15 years. Only 1 time get diahorrea eating seafood in D4. That time my vietnamese friend didnt get diahorrea. Until today I dont know whether food is not clean or I ate too much proteins in a short time leading to diahorrea.

But overall just 1 time diahorrea in 15 years.

I went last month and will try my best to answer.

Japan town - the skewer were good but honestly for the rest of the jap food, SG better. U might want to try the viet bbq there instead.

Bahn mi - any place is good I feel. My favourite is the deconstructed one with steak at district 3. Still miss it.

I hardly see bakeries in D1, except those cafes type. But plenty in D3.

Ben Ngeh not bad place to eat. The hawkers do not harass u as much as those in Ben Thanh.

4P Pizza is good though I prefer melbourne more.

I got most of the food recommendations from this thread too.

Did any one been to Vung Tau from HCMC? Thanks
Yes took the green line ferry from Bach dang pier. Check in early, ask which one is your boat because the captain won't announce in English. Either you keep a close watch of your ferry or you stay close to the counter lady and she will tell you. Just stay inside the ferry and don't go outside, it's dusty smokey and loud. Reached VT can take a grab bike to go to your hotel
