I was there earlier this year. We went straight from the airport to the train station to book the overnight train to Lao Cai and then a minibus ride away from Sapa.

Depending on what ya want to do at Sapa, you might want to consider spending 3nights in Sapa doing a 2d 1n trek and homestay and the rest of the time wondering around Sapa. Renting a bike would save you sometime without sacrificing on the serenity there.

There are alot of tour operators offering 2d 1n Halong Bay. Remember to pick the more reliable ones and get your room farther from the engine room.

7-8 days is sufficient although if you are the type that like to relax in the cool weather, the more the merrier

I just went there from 02 May to 07 May.

Train tix to Lao Cai you can buy at the train station either at Main station (Le Duan St.) or "station B" (Tran Quy Cap St.)

I bought the LC1 (310000Dong) from Hanoi to Lao Cai depart at 2200H and LC2 (305000Dong) from Lao Cai back to Hanoi depart at 2115H. Both AC + soft sleeper 6 seater.

I also bought the tix on the day its depart.

As for Lao Cai to Sapa, you need not worry about transport as there will be many touts waiting outside the Lao Cai station for you.

market price is about 2 USD (40000Dong) but i managed to get 1 for 35000Dong as there is only me and a couple in the mini-van.

I know of Sinhcafe but i do not need the tour package, so if any1 know how to travel by sea from vietnam to Phu Quoc Island pls render your help.

Any website to recommend for booking of hotel in Ho Chi Minh near District 7? I am going there early next month and is looking to stay around Elios Hotel there.

Or is it recommended not to take up any package and go by ourselves? by the way we have 4 pple to ninh binh and 3pple to sapa. going end of july

one thing, how much USD and Dong to change? after 2 night hotel stay paid for online. still need to go ninh binh and sapa and 1.5 days stay in hanoi. is it better to change usd or dong?

2. besides that what are some pubs, clubs (for 20s) and massage parlors that the bros here can highly recommend?
i know jokerpoker81 bro recommended Pham Ngu Lao, Volcano and Jolly Spa along Mac Dinh Chi street respectively in his 2008 thread. do the recommendations still stand true today?
any other establishments that have improved over the years? Gossip Club? Regency Hotel's spa?

3. MUST eat food places?

i just came back from phu quoc island april 2011.. i recommend taking domestic flight from hcmc... save time and really not expensive at all.. around 40USD per way... if u go via the land and sea route, also need around 25usd...

for domestic flight, i recommend mekong air(bombardier CRJ200).. or Vietnam air(ATR).

Any bros been on a Vietnam leg that includes Hanoi and Hoi An? Planning for a final trip next Jan before my last semester of school starts. Going to Hoi An mainly for tailoring of suits and business attire. Have about 7-8 days to spare. Currently am considering flying SIN-HAN then take domestic to Da Nang and travel to Hoi An. Stay about 3-4 days then return to Hanoi for Halong Bay tour to end off. How long does the traveling take from Hanoi to Halong Bay?

Otherwise, taking a Taxi from Ho Chi Ming Airport to Dalak, how much will it cost and how many hours? Is it safe to travel alone by Taxi?
