What is the price range like?

What is b&l raybans? I saw some raybans there but if u go that shop, you want to be looking for vintage acetate(aka plastic) frames. Many of them are handmade in france or japan.

The quality of mass produced frames nowadays pales in comparison to these. Many of the branded frames u get off the shelves from orchard are manufactured by the Luxottica group.

So why are u paying big money for mass produced designer frames?! Handmade frames are almost non existant now as it is just not feasible to meet sales demand.

Anyway i heard that there are other vintage spec shops around. Please share if you know them. I heard Peninsula Plaza and shopping centre, Far East, Queensway also have hidden gems

From what i remember, that Balestier shop only has:

Vintage Rodenstocks, American Optical.... Alot of those aviator shape metal frames. Like those classic american pilot ones. Never ask the price but they seem like good quality stuff.

But those vintage acetate frames he told me cheap cheap, like $25? I got quite a shock when i heard the price. Then i made one with presciption coated lens for $80 in all.

The sales woman told me mediacorp artist do frequent there to get vintage glasses. And there's once whereby F4 also came to their shop to get a pair. Whether or not thats true, i'm not sure.

went to the balestier shop. very run-down - in a nice and positive way. certainly different from the blings and shine of retail shops in orchard road.

an old lady there took a long time to warm up to me. didn't really seem interested in doing business with me at first.

bought a medium-sized aviator style specs for myself.

very nice vintage and timeless looking frames for sunglasses... will definitely make one in the near future. (sunglasses lenses are how much TS??)

One advise, u can buy the frames and go to your usual optician to get lens fitted. Because that balestier place is too ulu. And i don't think they have much lens option

doesn't matter. i just need basic ones. multicolour thin lens. (referring to normal specs)

I wonder how many of u are into these. Classic styling, retro looks, understated beauty and fashion. I think these are the epitome of glasses. More than just geek chic, it takes a certain character to pull it off.

Vintage meaning real decade(s) old pieces which u find in old shops, or from evilbay. We shall include modern vintage-inspired ones too to keep the discussion going.

Those in blue, in particular, are very well made.

AO makes a sturdy, albeit heavy aviator that is a real classic and value for money.

I think you should totally try Ebay and Amazon for first copy glasses you would be amazed to see how many different vendors are sitting there waiting for people like us to discover them. I ordered a couple from there and am satisfied... hope this helps..

• Hand-made in England. Rare vintage set which had the flexible metal coiled ear hooks which the current model doesn't have.
• Good for outdoor activities such as surfing, hiking and fishing as the hooks prevents the sunglasses from falling off.
• This frame was inspired by standard issue prescription eyewear for the Metropolitan Police in the 1970s, with cable temples that curled around the ear for extra security.
