Vocation : ELECTC TECH (OETI - TECH)

Anybody know what do I do as an ELECTC TECH for vocation course at SAF OETI (AKA OES)??
I have been told it will be 2-3months stay in during vocation training course, how is the routine like? and is it tiring? any tips / recommendations?

Any helpful comments will be greatly appreciated!

I have to say that during my 4 months and 3 weeks stint in OETI Ayer Rajah Camp last time was the best part of my NSF days.

The most famous ought to be the fried chicken wings lol. And during our days every tech with A levels or poly diploma will be promoted to 3SG no matter what but now no more.

BTW thought Electc aka Comms tech have been phased out for NSF? That was what I heard when I went back for reservist last time.

Anyway for TS for electc tech mostly will be dealing with the comms system inside armour tank so high chance either posted to those maintainence bases or armour units so be prepared to be posted to Sungei Gedong after your course.

My camp now is in Kranji Camp 3. I heard these are the 3 places we will likely get posted to:
- Air force
- Gedong
- Nee soon camp

Which camp is the best, I heard gedong facilities are too old and malfunctioning.

Also, is 3SG a lot more work to do? Like is it worth it to aim for 3SG for the extra allowance or should I just stay as normal? And if I were to attend 3SG course, what is it like for the training?

Last time during our days there were no chances to post to Air Force, either maintenance base, armour units or overseas (if one volunteered). Nee Soon Camp should be maintenance depot if not wrong. And Gedong could be armour units or maintenance depot.

I can't comment on RSAF and Nee Soon but Sungei Gedong is the most ulu camp in mainland Singapore. The building and facilities there are quite old, got the 1980s' feel in it. Not to mentioned the commute if you are stay out personnel there.

During my days since majority of techs were 3SGs there is no difference between those spec tech and those LCP techs. But nowadays things might be different as the 3SG are expected to take a leadership role.

Can't say it is actually malfunctioning. But you won't want to be there because of how remote it is. For techs like you, most likely no stay-in, and the to-and-fro daily travel will be agonising unless you live in CCK/YT/BP region.

This is one of those camps you wish you are allowed to stay in like us in combat units.

This is one of the best vocations to have. You will actually end up with some very useful trade tools.
