Hi, i heard from my colleague (~40 years old) that enlistment dates have a relation with the vocation/unit we will be assigned to after BMT-POP.

he told me that june/aug intakes are combat units; sep/nov intakes are service units (for poly guys). is this true to any extent? or he pranking me =.=

Yes this is true to a certain extent. There is a pattern in every year, when certain months they will receive the combat and non combat recruits. However the pattern is not the same yearly, as it depends on the manpower issue, number of combat and service recruits etc. Besides combat status, educational background is also used to determine enlistment dates. Of course all these are just general pattern, will change without notice..

However it is not true that all combat fit recruits will he posted to combat units such as infantry. These combat recruits could be posted to combat support units as support troopers, MP, ST, and engineering units such as technicians.

Its equally high.

Combat support units refer to units which are not directly involved in combative measures. These units can be logistics, engineers etc...

I dont think its true.

Its all depends on the manpower needs.

As long as combat fit, can be posted to anywhere. Combat unit or support unit.

logistics, transport, mechanic, admin, etc are under combat service support.

arty, signal, combat medic, combat engineer, etc are under combat support.

everything in army that doesn't wear a blue beret is under combat.

not true, every quarter will have at least 1 combat unit having a intake, be it infantry/guards/armour. reason being, it is 3 months apart, and units go through exercise, rotations, ops, stand-bys etc. if they were to skip, some unit will be taxed in doing longer duties or have a tight schedule.

combat support are arty, signal, combat engineer, combat medic, etc...

combat service support are transport, logistics, ammo, service medic, mechanic, etc...

combat are infantry, guards, cdo, armor.

Singapore Army - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

'Combat Arms'
Armour
Artillery
Combat Engineers
Commandos
Guards
Infantry
Signals

It say they are 'Combat Arms' not 'Combat Support'. but got 'Combat Service Support Units' which consist of the following:

Army Intelligence
Army Medical Services
Army Maintenance and Engineering Support
Army Supply and Transport
Singapore Armed Forces Ammunition Command

They say not I say, we all know Armour, Artillery, Combat Engineers and Signals are Combat Support Arms. Army vocations is combat vocations or non combat vocations. In the old days we ask you from 'combat side' or 'service side'? Combat Support Arms people seldom say I from 'Combat Support'. they just say I from 'combat side' but that was my time in the 70s now may be not.
