I forgot which year but if not wrong 42 Sar got win best combat unit before.

SAR that won best combat unit are 40 SAR year 2002. 41 SAR 1978 and 1984. 42 SAR 1979 and 1982. Take note in 1984 41 won best combat unit and 40 won best combat support unit first time in SAF. This record still not broken SAR very power!

i won't go so far as to say that it is totally random.

your diploma might play a part in your vocation but at the same time manpower requirements also play a big part.

please la... combat, combat support, combat service support are all just classifications for admin purpose.

it does not strictly dictate the roles the units are limited to in operational context.

it's true in the sense that some formations don't have intake for selected enlistment batches, eg: arti didn't have an intake for my batch

Fresh battalion intakes (All including AI, recce, mortar, pioneer everything) for Armour standard is fixed at those POP on Oct and Apr. Small amounts gets posted to 48SAR every POP batch since its a evergreen unit.

48SAR is leopard leh, the one and only armour unit using leopard, thats why it is evergreen.

the allocation is super random one la. bmt best recruit in my co. went and became recce trooper (seeing that saf doesnt want him to be in ocs, he promptly chao keng and downgraded his pes status). another batch in OCS the infantry sword of honour recipient got sent to become a MP officer.
