Noticed this new option on the s7 edge after the latest update.

Once enabled there's this handset + WiFi logo on the top....

Anyone knows what it does? I note of an article by SingTel stating island wide rollout in august... But that was it.

Are you using Singtel?

Voice over Wi-Fi is one of the Het-Net feature where you can start making calls over Wi-Fi or cellular network. But I'm not sure if it's fully functional now..

Voice over WiFi is a new thing, it doesn't work like WhatsApp call or Viber call which somehow lags. Looks like Singtel will be announcing the operation soon..

Unfortunately, I don't think it applies to Apple iPhones yet. :D

The VoLTE is available in the settings on my S6.. does turning this on enable VoLTE on the phone? Or does the individual telcos control the activation of VoLTE? Should not be right? 🙃🙃

Both ways. If you have the volte icon at your status bar, then it's activated by Telco. You can only turn it off from settings menu, but the icon remains.

So you can only have control when it's activated by Telco whereas if it's deactivated by telco, nothing you set on the phone helps..

Tried everything that's possible.

It used to work with my home network... And also at work in town...raffles area.

No idea why it stopped now.

Didn't update anything aside from the usual app updates

It's working while connected to the office wifi however I did perform a manual registration with the network before I tried. Not sure if that helped with the problem.

Will test tonight at home .. hope it works.

VoWiFi is part of the HetNet features that all 3 telcos are working with IDA to roll out as part of Smart Nation initiative.

If you had studied about Mobile Comms, HetNet is one of the ways to offload mobile and data traffic off from regular cell towers (in a way its a good thing. Can help you save some battery power. :D)

If your office is within that HetNet zone, you will be able to use the VoWiFi feature on your phone. If not, recommend that you turn it off to save some battery power. Squeeze another 3 to 5mins out of your battery also happy.

https://www.m1.com.sg/hetnet
https://www.singtel.com/about-Us/ne...island-wide-vowifi-rolout-and-paves-way-.html

Starhub haven't seen any HetNet trials yet. Next one should be MyRepublic, they are doing some VoWiFi trials at JLD area IIRC.

But when you guys say "I go office can use", you all sexpose roughly where you are working liao. :D All JLD area. :D

But dun worry that this HetNet thing will jiak into your 4G or 3G Data consumption. The billing charge will count towards your voice minutes, not data. The background telco billing process can blow your brains out this early in the morning so I don't want to kill your brain cells. :D

Actually for that whole Smart Nation thing, it is a lot more complicated than everyone thinks it is. Unless you are very deep in the technology, government tech or security business, very little chance most people will truly understand the scale of Smart Nation.

Dun bother about your home router. It doesn't support HetNet... YET.

I updated my home routers firmware today and guess what the vowifi came back.

Stay in bishan and using ac87u.

In the office I tried with the local WiFi provided and vowifi is active. I tried using data card and portable WiFi adapter also works.

yeah.. i think i mentioned before it works at certain areas where hetnet is but actually i'm wrong. Singtel confirmed with me privately that their VoWiFi will work on any wifi network that you are connected to and as usual, airtime fare applies..

i'm dying to try out on my note 7, which will be supported towards year end with the 4G sim firmware update as well..
