Hi All,

I tried to read about VPN. But, the more I read, the more I'm confused.
For simple understanding, my network at home is on M1 100Mbps with Cisco E1200 router.

I want the set-up like this.
WD TV Live Hub - Permanent VPN via Cat6 cable
Mac Book, iPhone & iPad - I want to use VPN when I don't wanna switch on my TV or simultaneously.
Other devices on normal internet.

How should I go about? I'm thinking of getting Strong VPN. The reason why my own gadgets to use VPN is cuz of speed. The speed of VPN is too limiting to watch HD YouTube clip I think (according to what I read so far).

I just don't know how to set it up. Is it a must to set-up Open VPN? I think L2TP is the one I need as I want my iOS devices on VPN sometimes.

I really tried looking up set-up procedure and it looks simple on StrongVPN sites but, it doesn't have solution for WDTV Live Hub. And, another question, StrongVPN can be used by different devices simultaneously?

Thanks all so much..

Hi Daniel,

I am not an expert in this VPN stuffs but am recently playing with the similar setup, so would like to share with my experience, please ignore if you find it irrelevant. :)

If I understand your requirements correctly, it seemed that you may need to have a dd-wrt router and make it attached to your main router. (You can read more about it @ www.dd-wrt.com). The purpose of this router is to do the VPN login. All your TV and other devices which need to gain VPN can access from it, where the rest of your PC which just need to gain internet connection only can access via your main router.

I am StrongVPN subscriber too and MR pure plan. Unfortunately, same as you, am not able to gain HD movies as the VPN speed on average is around 3mbps.

Caution : if you really wish to try this DD-WRT method, you need to do some research and study 1st. Coz not all routers can be flashed with the DD-WRT firmware. If did wrongly, there stands a chance your router might get 'bricked'.

Hopes this help to give your some head start to 'resolve' your issue.
