I guess what's even more jalat is that those parcels can only be kept at the post office for 5 working days, before they get send back to somewhere else.

Well, you can choose to do away with the price for item marked as gift from Amazon. However, not all merchants work the same as Amazon; some work the direct opposite of what Amazon would do. So if you declare just $1 for item marked as a gift which still has the price displayed, you are taking a risk. Also, I would not recommend anyone to declare the item value to a meagre amount such as $1 because if you declare an item as having just a value of $1, most probably you would only be compensated with $1 should it be lost before being delivered.

Yes, the new policy requires a customer to effect a paid redelivery or self-collection within 5 days personally to the post office before vPost start to do away with the packages. I won't touch vPost with a ten yard pole from now on unless there is someone who can stay at home at all times just to wait to sign for my packages. They can torture other willing customers with their stupid new policy instead.

Penalized for consolidating shipping!

I've never used border. No citi card.
Used to use Vpost then switched to CGW cos they use DHL with much much better service, do re-deliveries and deliver at night.

But just today I got a bit puzzled and disappointed!!

I got 5 parcels to ship. I shipped 3 together, total value less than $400. Weight 3.5kg. I'm charged usd 71.81. Paid and processed.

Then I got another 2 parcels left. I was just trying to play around with it. If shipped together, the total value exceeds $400 and total weight will be 5-6kg. The total amount comes up to usd 95plus.

If ship both separately, each parcel is about 30-35 which adds up to 60 plus only. Thats a 30usd more if shipped together! There's the cost breakdown. No GST incurred. Only difference is the "import clearance service fee"...not sure what this is! Ship separately, no service fee charged. If ship together, the service fee is 30plus. HUHHHHHHHH....i thought the point is to consolidate shipping! Now I'm penalised for shipping together. Its way cheaper to ship individual parcel. Dont make sense leh!

I've written to cgw liaos...waiting for reply!

SGD400 limit includes the shipping fees, and uses Custom's FX rates.

to avoid GST u have to make sure Goods + Freight cost is less than S$400.00 and not just goods alone.

a while back just used thier BuyForMe service, sadly it no longer free upgrade to express delivery for UOB cards but still waive 5% fee.

Maybe have to switch to using Amex card but the Prime program don't seems attractive as compared to UOB previously with 5% fee waiver for BFM and free upgrade to express delivery.

does any other card using CGW offer better?

However, since the clothes are not shipped directly from the merchant to CGW/ Borderlinx and I have asked my friend to remove the invoice, may I know how will they check the declared value?

Does this mean that i can just input any value, say 50usd, so that it will definitely be below the gst limit? and since they do not have the invoice they cannot check the value?

If the items are all yours, you can have him remove all packaging and labels, and ship it as personal items with $0 value.

Alternatively, just have him print a simple $30 invoice ($1 per item) and stick it in the package. Look at it from a different perspective - he bought the items first, and is now selling the items to you at that price. You didn't buy from the merchant, but are buying second hand clothes from an individual instead.

The downside to under-declaring is, if the package is lost or damaged, that is how much your carrier will reimburse you. So, if the courier loses the entire package, you'll receive $30 insurance compensation. (The other downside of avoiding taxes? Just look at Greece ...)

How come suddenly back at Cincinnati again?? I know if your parcel comes after 330 on certain days you wont see an update till 3am next morning because it will take the Air Hong Kong cargo flight here. Maybe it was flown back to US by accident??
