Ok thx! Heard that direct from amazon wont use big boxes dunno whether it's true anot

They will still use big boxes, however the size of the boxes will not affect the shipping fee at that point...
I'd strongly recommend shipping direct from amazon if you are intending to order bags.

not sure which stories are these? can elborate?

I have been using CGW for previous shipments with no issue (till now), but feel that they are quite expensive also.

Anyway recent issue with CGW, I shipped a bicycle rack, and it came to me broken. The main shaft of the rack is damaged. Seriously no idea what they did to it but they broke a part which is made of metal and should be able to withstand damage.

Now waiting for the insurance claim. they have collected back the shipment.

OMG, they broke a metal part? remember to ask them how they manage to break that!

btw what i am trying to say about CGW is like what many bros here have mentioned before, CGW way of calculating volumetric weight is really unpredictable and I was bitten by borderlinx for unexpected charges on the volumetric weight already before, so I dare not try also.

I also heard comments that the express shipping of CGW is not as fast as DHL express, as CGW express is the same as their CGW standard shipping.... so no need to pay more. anybody got experience before?

Depends...
I feel amazon direct shipping is a better option, but it's not available for all products...

If you are shipping a timbuk2 bag, I'd recommend shipping directly from amazon.
The charges you will incur at CGW will be a bomb (due to volumetric weight).
Trust me, the size of the boxes amazon uses for bags are enormous!!!

For amazon, they use both DHL and iparcel.
Iparcel sucks, DHL is much better.
I think bags would ship via DHL and not the crappier i-parcel.

Not sure if it will work, but I think vpost provide a repacking service to repack your item so hopefully can reduce the volumetric weight? but i read that it will cost a fee, ....anybody try that before? not sure if they can really help...

CGW's way of calculating volumetric weight is consistently accurate, just that their way of calculating GST is kinda unpredictable. You can still incur GST when you do not expect it.

And yes, their express shipping is just like their standard shipping based on my experience.

Do not rely on repacking service for Amazon orders from the forwarder. It is best to opt for direct shipping from Amazon (not the 3rd party seller on Amazon) whenever possible so as to eliminate any uncertainty in the shipment's shipping charge to SG.

Yeah they broke a metal part. Even thou it is a weak part of the whole shaft (hollow part, the rest are mainly more solid metal), still its a stainless steel part. :s8: They are claiming against DHL/insurance now, so I guess it is a delivery damage?

about the unpredictable charges, this I agree as i experienced it once before. There was this once whereby I purchase an item and the shipper sent via USPS, and CGW charge a ridiculously high amount for the Volumetric Weight, and I actually talked to the online chat, and the person sent an request asking for a re-weigh + repack if possible. After the re-weigh, the package weight dropped from 6kg to 5kg(and my package was indicated not suitable for repack). So sometimes I guess they anyhow do their weighing? So far it happened only once, so I guess still quite lucky.
So far no issues if I am buying from Amazon as Amazon mostly ship with Fedex/UPS which also pre-measured the Volumetric weight and thus CGW would not anyhow weigh.
as for express, I am using borderlessbuys.com so I am getting express service all the time. =) good and quick except for the last shipment damage. :o

CGW offers repacking too...
The charge is around 12 SGD for repacking, but can only be done if they deem it to be 'suitable for repack'.
I'd normally just opt for direct shipping from amazon, it would generally be significantly cheaper if you expect that repacking would be necessary though.

Yeah, direct shipping from amazon would be better but lots of items I want they dont ship globally =:p

anyway as for the repack, there is charges thus unless the repacked savings is more than the charge, CGW would not give you the option to repack.

Just send the packages to vPost and follow the steps which are more or less similar to CGW's. Nothing too different needs to be done.

vPost's method of calculation for GST is on individual package whereas CGW's and Borderlinx's are on consolidated packages, so vPost would not charge you GST for your case.

Thank you!!
Now waiting excitedly for my items :s13::s13:

sidetrack, does anyone find it lame that CGW has a GES site cater specially for AMEX holders?
Very sian I cannot combine the CGW for both my AMEX and mastercard :(

Is based on CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight)
Shipping cost is included in the calculation for GST.

Holy crap. After hearing so many horror stories about Borderlinx's customer service I was just gonna bite the bullet and ship my stuff and suffer the incurrance of GST for my SGD 40X package when I decided to give it a go.

So I went and clicked on the Live Help button (something that I once upon a time have no confidence in even getting a reply), I had a few words with a CSO Hannah, she said Amazon consolidated my packages and they couldn't open it, which was understandable I guess, so instead I asked for a straight up shipping discount and she gave me a code for a USD$10 discount, which may not seem like much but it saves me the entirety of the 7% GST on $407(total cost of items plus shipping) by bringing it down to SGD397.

I'm obviously very pleased with the outcome and pretty impressed by their service. I settled the matter in 10 minutes with a positive outcome. I did concurrently send a strongly worded email which the CSO mentioned, and that might have helped my case, but in any case, I'm happy, and will probably continue to use borderlinx- they're proving better than I thought.

shipping time with DHL is about the same, but when you use express they usually handover the package to DHL on the same day as your payment date. When you use standard, they usually handover the package 3-4 business days after payment, that is why express shipping is still faster.

You can use non-US credit card to pay CGW.

I just checked their website, the discount is only applicable on the 10th of any month, so might need to wait for quite a bit if your package is delivered above the 10th. Without discount, price is above vpost. Also need to pay $18 for insurance (same as vpost).
