I've experienced this firsthand, as well as "template" emails redirecting me to their website for information I cannot access until I sign up.

Which begs the question, why would I sign up without all relevant information in the first place?

Makes little business sense to me, especially in a climate where consumers are loyal to companies who practise full transparency.

On another note, Singapore is not known for exceptional customer service. comGateway seems to be based here, and I've seen Australians complain about apalling service from comGateway customer service personnel in other forums (whirlpool I believe).

hmm.. if you're not happy then go somewhere else? if you've received the template emails from them, means you've signed up, means you've access to their rates, means... you don't really have a case here at all.

simple rule applies to keep yourself happy here :) - if you're not happy, take your money somewhere else.

According to borderlinx, they do not have any ongoing promotions at the moment. I just proceed to pay shipping cost.

Hi there

Laptops generally weigh about 4-5kg in shipping weight. We invite you to try out our new Live Quote service to get a full estimate (you can even lock in the price by purchasing a guarantee. If the item is lighter than we estimate, you pay the new, lower shipping rate).

ww.comgateway.com/2012/live-quote.do?4403cgtyxsd=nIYbnZ3KKD%2ByrEIKoPvrj86kZ5E%3D (add in a "W") at the front.

We also note your question about GST. Please find the full costs below, based on 4kg (just to buffer :)):

Shipping (4kg) : USD30.95
Fuel Surcharge (12%, April'13): USD3.71
Insurance: USD(30.95+3.71+650) x 0.65% = USD4.45
Total CGW Shipping Cost = USD35.40
GST
Also, GST (7% of C + I + F) will be levied, and the exchange rates and shipping rates used will be based on what is provided to us by Singapore Customs. Please see GST calculations below:
Cost (C)
Declared value of goods: USD650
Insurance (I)
1% x [ C + F ]
= 1% x [ US$650 + USD26.37 ]
= USD6.76
Freight (F)
[ Chargeable Weight x S$ 9.85 ] / SG Custom Exchange Rate
= [ 4kg x S$ 9.85 ] / 1.494 = USD26.37
Total CIF = USD650 + USD6.76 + USD26.37 = USD683.13
Converting CIF: (US$ to S$):
USD683.13 x 1.494= S$1,020.60

7% GST = S$71.44
+ 5% Service Charge (Bank processing charges) = S$3.57
Total Tax = S$75.01 (USD50.20)

In conclusion, you would need to consider the additional USD85.60 (Shipping + 7% GST) in the final purchase price of the product.

Hope we've helped! Please do not hesitate to reach out to us if you have more questions
Thanks for the reply.
Just wondering.. is hopshopgo also part of comGateway? if so are the shipping prices similar?

Hi there

If you're referring to the comGateway site, it's up and running well :) Clear your browsing history and cache, and if the problem persists, PM us your Suite ID (c/o SGX-XXXX) so we can investigate?

Cheers

It's up and running now. Thanks!

Hi Comgateway,

Can i ask something.

I want to buy something but they cancelled my order.

1. Can i know is it because of the credit card i use is not from USA.

2. Or is it they black listed your address?

For 1.
If i add a foreign address to my DBS Card, does it help?

For 2.
Actually i don't think they black listed your address since it's not in your restricted list and they are pretty new.
Have your company thought of making another array of address names for people like me rather than use the concierge service?

Taxes and Duties - 7% GST is levied on shipments exceeding SGD400 in value, by the Singapore government.

However, when you buy via CGW, you actually pay *more* for GST, as they effectively collect 7.35% from you instead.

US$360.80 x 1.494= S$539.04

7% GST = S$37.73
+ 5% Service Charge (because we incur bank processing charges too) = S$1.89
Total Tax = S$39.62 (USD26.79)

In other words, shopping with CGW = 7.35% GST!
Guess I'll stick with Borderlinx.

PS CGW: I'm inclined to believe the above isn't in compliance with SG taxation laws, because you're not paying their 7% GST on your 5% GST service fee...

Edited to add: And with an exchange rate of 1.494?!? 2009 called, and they want their USD strength back...

Hi there

This is the rate used for calculating GST, and is provided by Singapore Customs.

On our website, all charges are made in USD, hence the exchange rate is determined by your credit card's issuing bank (i.e., if you use a POSB card, POSB decides the exchange rate).

Please let us know if you require further clarification.
Thank you!

sorry i dont understand. how about this website?

Customs Currency Conversion - Main page

lets say my item cost 300 USD.
And the shipping is 11 USD (<0.5kg)
Fuel surcharge is 1.32 USD.
Insurance is 2.03 USD
total cost = 314.35 USD

to check if i have to pay GST,

do i take USD 314.35 X 1.2402 = SGD 389.86 (hence no need to pay GST)
(exhange rate taken from customs website for import)

or do i take USD 314.35 x 1.494 = SGD 469.64 and hence pay GST on this amount (from the rate u quoted, which is from customs?)

if its according to my bank's exchange rate, how do we determine if i need to pay GST since the bank will only bill me later.

yes i need some clarification. thank you.
