How much should one be making at 35 y old ? My cousin told me today he is making 17K a month (excluding bonus), make me a bit upset with myself

There are always people earning way above you and way below you. I generally dont benchmark with people close to me. I like to benchmark with people with similar ability as me, during school, college, work place etc. If you have moved up compared to your peers then you are doing well already. If you think you have ability and can move up, then you should work towards it, no point getting affected with someone else's success. You dont know his IQ level, maybe he is blessed and gifted and has unfair advantage already as part of his genes. So no point feeling bad about it.

Already mentioned include bonus. This one should be 2017 figure, release in 2018. 2018 figure not released yet.

why dont u just ask your cousin how he managed to climb to be earning that much.. then follow the same route

People have different abilities and different luck/destiny.

Some slacked and just lucky to land into the right vocation at the right time, some worked hard to get into the right vocation at the right time.

Some are just unlucky, some slacked.

Investing also same..
I felt it was ok to buy more after a correction but it plunged further to reach the bottom within a month. Some people might be monitoring the market , some might not, but both also bought during December when they received their bonuses. Their returns would be better than mine.



If you did not make $17k, just try harder and try to see what he did to make that $17k. Get yourself into that position.

A lot of people just complained or filled with envy , but they never do self-introspection on what they did to deserved sub $17k level and what the other party did to deserved >$17k level. But amidst all these, I still feel luck plays a part in your life.

No end to comparison I feel

Your Cousin could be envious at someone earning 17k a week, or 17k a day even. Some are earning more than 17k every day, one mountain higher than another
