Hi all,

Need your help to make decision!

After being recently irritated by a friend who hooted a X99/6800k/GTX 1070 setup; he keep calling mine a peasant ITX box :( - I one-up him by getting my 1080 :s42: (after all, most FPS come from the GPU)

For the most part, our systems were performing relatively similar in games (overwatch/gta5/ I NEED MORE GAMES TO STRESS THE BEAST :s11:). But when I ran 3dmark Firestrike I was stunned . My score was a measly 13k compared to his 22k score. I'm well aware of bottlenecks but that was quite a surprising result.

So right now, im itching here to sumhow salvage my rig. I've narrowed the possibilities to:

  1. buy a XEON e3v3 1231
  2. buy a skylake/kabylake i7 mobo + ddr 4
  3. hoot a x99 6800k setup

I'm a sucker for bang for buck, as a result option 1 is very appealing - only $340 on amazon. However due to my initial purchase of an i3 + gtx 670 and subsequently upgrading to the current i5 (to gain moar fps for CSGO at the time) - I'm pretty sure i've missed the bang for buck train already. Also the uefi bios of B85 doesnt seem to work with my 1080 :(

Second option is the most reasonable option but is equal to buying a new rig liao - the only question is whether to wait for kaby

third option - is to match my friend rig, but i feel x99 is too OP for and ITX setup; there will be many pcie lanes wasted..

So what do you guys think? :s11:

Why compare? You are the only one whom will lose more. The fact that he got a better than pc better than you, but why bother to challenge? So that you all could have a better pc than each other? If so then what will you get at the outcome? Faster pc? Brings you more wealth?

The reason of his score vs yours is merely your CPU physics scores are overall much lesser. Go for Graphics scores. That will be identical to his.

Your i5 processor SHOULD not be bottlenecking your 1080 at all, therefore 95% of your games will be running at high fps. You just have to stop comparing builds and enjoy your pc because at the end of the day, you are the only one using the pc, not your friend or a stranger. However, if you really want to upgrade, you could just get a 4790k and a z97 mobo for maybe SGD 500.

This just made my day. :s13:

I suggest if you want to stay with your current platform just hoot i7-4790... This will improve your firestrike score by a lot due to 8 threads.

that is if you just want to burn money just to compare who has higher firestrike scores.

My friendly advice,

Asus X99 Rampage V Edition 10 + i7-6950X
Gskill Trident Z 3200mhz 16gb x 8 = 128gb
Samsung Pro 950 512gb
Intel NVME 750 series 1.2TB
Asus GTX1080 8gb Strix x3 in SLI
Seasonic P1200 1200w Platinum PSU
Lian Li PC-O8WX

And lastly top it up with a $5k custom water cooling loop.

If your graphics score in firestrike is low (in which you have not mentioned), you need to tweak your overclocks abit more, then you will be able to get higher fps in games. More games does not stress the gpu, tweaking your Overclock does.
