Will get obsolete fast leh. From 5V 1A was common, now considered super slow for charging devices. Now the charging power standard for USB is all over the place. Now also got type-c connector taking over USB type A also, dunno next time what will take over...

/me looks at the power sockets I have that have USB, good only if I wanna slow charge overnight

Here are some examples of wall socket electrical outlets with USB charging connectors available in Singapore, in no particular order:

* Legrand offers some, such as certain models in their Mallia range.
* Line8, which offers custom configured "track" systems with optional USB connectors.
* Schneider, such as KB15USB_WE and E82T25USB_WE_G2.

I don't think obsolescence is too much of a problem since it's fairly easy and not too expensive to replace wall sockets every decade or so, but a potentially bigger concern is that USB connectors and cables typically aren't durable. It's not uncommon for someone to wreck these USB connectors pretty quickly.

Thanks to those who reply.

Was wondering is the USB port(s) always "live", ie. supplying power even when there is no device connected to it?

Most of them do not have a separate switch to turn off USB portion. Would prefer to use external USB adapter.

That's possible, but if so the "vampire" power draw will be a lot lower than when charging a device.

Think the power is lost as heat unless the circuitry is "smart" enough to be on standby mode. Without separate switch to turn-off the USB outlet, it's basically wasting power and money in long run.
