Main reason to upgrade is actually for my mother board. Suspect is EOL soon.

anyways, Specs as below.

MOBO - Gigabyte ex58-UD3R socket 1366
CPU - i7 920 - 2.67ghz
RAM - 2x 4096 DDR3 (cant rmbr speed but CPU-Z says 2138mhz)
SSD - ADATA 60GB boot
HDD 2X 1TB
GFX - Radeon HD 6870
Dual monitor, 21' + 19'
Casing - ThermalTake Tsunami

Basically gonna keep only HDD+SSD and monitor. Rest of components wont be keeping

Hopefully can keep budget within 1K, about 800 doable?
Really those casing like NZXT H230
H230 - NZXT

Bottom mounted PSU, Mid tower with cable concealment if possible.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Swap out a few things. You can swap out a mobo and cpu, swap out your PSU as it should be reaching its lifespan and not worth keeping it, only swap out your GPU if you intend to game newer titles. And a new chassis.

Optional would be a 256gb SSD. Seriously 60gb is barely enough for anything.

60GB purely for BOOT only so its fine for me.
Thinking my GPU should be due for upgrade too.
PSU is recently changed so that's ok too

Isnt a i7 920 to a i5 4590 a downgrade? Thats why I'm thikning if I should get this. Lots of people recommending this item. Is there a particular reason why?

Installing just for boot drive and not installing applications such as other games will be a waste.

Anyway I leave it to you on SSD.

Reason that we recommend an i5 instead of i7 is because of gaming purposes. You won't need an i7 unless you are doing some professional works or rendering and editing purposes. Else there is no difference between the i5 and the i7 as they are both quad cores just the lack of hyper threading and lesser cache. And you won't see the difference in terms of gaming as it is just single digit fps away.

What kind of video editing software do you use and what is the level of video editing that you do?

Nope i5 4590 give much better performance at lower watts and heat just no hyper-threading (useless in most applications anyways).

i7 is for hardcore users these days as it price to performance ratio really sucks.

wah.. sounds bad.. but... its at least a i7 ma.. should be still very good isit?

Very very very old generation le bro 4 generations behind!

Thats machiam asking a pentium 4 or core 2 quad faster regarding if the pentium is extreme edition

I5, i7 is just marketing doesnt mean much otherwise. Old means old. In fact even a new 8 core Haswell E cant make a 4 core 4790k Haswell Refresh in Single threaded performance.

Oh uhm, One more question. I have a Sound blaster Xi-fi Xtreme audio.
Should I continue using that PCI card or just use onboard sound?

TS if u can afford a cpu with hyperthreading then go for it cos
it always good to have more threads around
for me when i upgraded from lga775, i originally wanted to go for haswell but then i didnt really like the i5-4460 because i had no hyperthreading. and the only haswell with hyperthreading is pretty much the i7-4770 which was too expensive. so i waited for a while and went for a good used 2nd hand i7-2600, about same price (roughly 200 bucks) as a brand new i5-4460 but with the extra goodness of hyperthreading. although its 2 generations behind haswell but it is no slouch and everyone knows sandybridge has lesser heat issues than haswell. im using it very well these days =) and because u are coming from 920 u may psychologically feel shortchanged with the loss of 4 threads if u go for i5 haswell lol

But honestly how many a times will you use hyper threading? If just gaming, hyper threading is not necessary actually.
