Hello everyone,
i need some major help here T__T

i currently have a pharmaceutical science diploma and i would
like to be teacher. From what i know, if i have a degree, i only have to
go NIE for one year and if i go in straight with diploma, its four years.

So it would be great idea for me to take degree which can act as a backup plan too right?

but heres the problem. :s11::s11::s11:

i kind of want to have a pharm/or other science related degree but i can only these in overseas
cos i cant get into the local unis :/

BUT i heard NIE dont really accept oversea degree certs.

If you know anyone who got into NIE with a oversea cert, do tell me
so i know the possibility of it. ):

Another thing is ,
I have seen the NIE form having options which
includes

-Singapore, Singapore NUS
Singapore Singapore NTU
Singapore Singapore SMU
Singapore Singapore SIM / unisim
Singapore singapore Others .

Firstly, yeah SIM is the only private uni listed there,
so i went to look at the courses, most of them was not
what i really wanted. i didnt want to take a degree just for the sake
of taking a degree cert, you know what i mean?

so i am looking for other ways.

Seondly, yeah
theres the "others" option.
but beside that it says singapore. so i guess if its other
private uni, theres a chance to?

Please tell me the chances cos my friends have been scaring me saying
that they normally will just let the local uni student fill up the seats first):

yupp.

so the major problem is,
should i just go ahead with the SIM courses?
or do i just get the oversea cert , come back then try .
i know the decisions is still mine

but i really need all of the opinions of yours :)
every comment will allow me to think more for the future

Thanks alot! :D:D:D

I believe the 'SIM' that NIE is referring to is NOT SIM Global but UNISIM. Unisim is actually not too bad since its recognised now so it should overtake SIM Global soon if it hasnt by now. However, you need 2 years work experience to enter UniSIM. I think it would be VERY difficult if you took a private distance learning degree to get into NIE. However, if you took an overseas degree on-campus, it will definitely give you a better chance.

Im not saying that its not impossible to get into NIE through private DL degrees. But the chances are very slim and they'd probably take in only FCH and above in order to play safe.

Yes, they will let local uni students get in first because theyre better. Lets not debate about local uni vs bla bla but the fact that students who got into local uni are those who scored better than private uni should tell you enough.

From what I know is that Moe is more strict than other government bodies. I don't know if there's any, but so far I haven't heard if anybody entered nie with DL degrees.

If you can afford to study overseas, then check with NIE on which overseas uni they accept. If not just study unisim degree then join nie.

Take deg, don't go nie straightaway as it may limit your job chances if you quit as a teacher.

Heard that dl degs' geo2, meaning same pay as poly grad. Needs confirmation.

My cousin went nie straightaway.

Many threads on the cons of teaching but if you're passionate, go for it.

Seek help from teachers at sgforum, it's useful! :o

If you want to join on the degree payscale, you'll likely have to do the 4 year NIE degree, assuming you can get in. 10% IGP is 3.20 - 3.30. The good thing is that your studies are paid for, the bad thing is that this degree is a Bachelor of Education degree and it can be hard to leave the teaching industry.
