@Dragon

In relation to your latest update today
  • Forum Nuisance (Trolling / Troublemaker / Etc.) = 3 points
  • Thread Digging or Posting Rubbish / Nuisance Content = 3 points
  • Posting Unsolicited Content (Commercial Solicitation / Ad / Referral / Spam) = 3 points
  • Posting Comment with Inappropriate Language / Insulted Other(s) = 6 points
  • Posting Lewd / Indecent / Pornographic Content = 6 points
  • Posting Racist / Discriminatory Comment = 6 points
  • Copyright Infringement / Piracy = 6 points
  • Doxxing / Harassment / Intrusion of Privacy = 6 points
  • Posting Misinformation Content (Unverified / Inaccurate / Debunked / Fake News / Conspiracies) = 6 points
  • Posting Inappropriate Comment / Content = 6 points

This comes into effect for posts made today and after? will the posts before be affected too?

The reason I am asking is because for certain topics what constitutes as Misinformation today might not be so in the past. this timing issue might apply to in the other cases of inappropriate language, lewd, indecency, pornography, racism, discriminatory etc etc

e.g. "Healthy no need wear mask" should be flagged as misinformation?
Vaccine effectiveness?

secondly, whose definition or perspective is used when judging the above points?

e.g. BBFA, for some it might be harmless. for some it might be discriminatory?
what's decent or indecent? defined according to what? is there a published catalogue of examples for reference?
can there be a list of words/topics/offenses along with the date it came into effect?

Seems to be lots of grey areas.

E.g. those Russia-Ukraine threads are a big landmine. And also, does this mean now cannot post things like "Ukraine going to surround Moscow tmr" in sarcasm?

Also, regarding copyright infringement. What's the stance for thing like articles behind paywall?

Websites put articles behind paywall so they can earn the subscription fees. However, sometimes forumers want to share articles for discussion but they are behind paywall. Out of goodwill, some forumers may copy paste wholesale the paywalled article. Does this constitute copyright infringement/piracy?

On the other hand, if the forumer only copy paste a small portion of the paywalled article, sometimes it may get taken out of context.

Good question @Yueming. In relation to your cited example on masks or vaccines, it would not be applied retrospectively to prior posts for misinformation noting that the remarks made was based on prevailing knowledge or information at that given time period.

We have always maintained this line of common sense and reasoning when issuing warnings. Base on the same reasoning, we will also not retrospectively reverse warnings issued previously - which were supported by scientific understanding and regulatory advisories / guidelines.

I also recall that this has been raised in prior queries where the admin has also responded with a similar reply.

This is literally a catch-all clause. Who is to decide on whether a comment is inappropriate?

Now you're probably going to call on common sense and universal maxim of "would u say this to someone in real life?" The truth is a lot of content and comments in EDMW are random, senseless and certainly wouldn't be uttered in reality - regardless if they are harmless or not.

Rules should be made more objective with concrete examples and cases to which users and mods can refer. Redress should be made more professional and transparent with balance mechanisms such as a rotated "user jury".

Sounds like a lot of work, but the reason to the success of EDMW is also its Achilles' heels. Just tightening the rules to "clean" the forum and keeping out cheeky or misbehaving members is just going to turn it into another boring general SG forum with no differentiation whatsoever to many others.

It's a delicate balance to strike.
