Hi guys :o

I want to start to dabble into custom water cooling. So along the way might have some questions need to ask you guys. Thanks in advance.

For a start, I'm going for CPU first. Is below loop in correct order?

Rad Out > CPU In > CPU Out > Reservoir In > Reservoir Out > Pump In > Pump Out > Rad In.

I'll be placing my Rad on top of case with fans in pull config.

Also, for distilled water, where to buy? Those Watson, 7-11 distilled water can use? Or buy those to top up car battery from petrol kiosk?

Oh ya, this may sound stupid.

For radiator, the In and Out port not fixed one right? Can use either way?

Look out for specific ports that only allows inlet/outlet for cpu, reservoir and pump.

For radiator if you have more than 2 ports rule of thumb is not to use the ports on same side for inlet and outlet?

Some distilled water got 加料 (ions) but use distilled must add biocide. Some people prefer coolant so can save hassle of hunting for biocide. Distilled by far is the best medium because of high specific heat capacity.

Other things to look out for: avoid mixing alu and copper in same loop?

Thanks!

CPU, Res and pump quite clear as the IN and OUT are stated clearly. The Rad only have 2 ports on the same side. So I reckon In and OUT can use either way.

Those distilled water from Watsons will do right? The coolant concentrate stated already have biocide stuff inside.

You planning to use concentrate with colour? Better do a flush of radiators properly because sometimes alot of impurities in the rad can cause the colour of the water inside to change.

Some rads have more than 2 ports. Alphacool can have up to 7 ports? Only the thin ones has 2 ports. So if in using left side port, out should not be on the left again bah..

Many times, dont think 'distilled' water is actually distilled. Maybe at most filter only
Unless you cincai like me, I just buy battery water LOL from some convenience store at petrol kiosk.

Golden rule: res then pump. The order after that do not matter.

For rad, either ports can be inlet/outlet, no specific direction. Only for CPU block then got specific direction that needs to be followed.

For GPU block, the inlet and outlet must be opposite of each other. Otherwise, ur coolant wun flow through the block.

If u wanna use distilled water, get silver coil as well.

Might not be a good thing to start out just CPU only. Cause the shipping, the tax, may ended up paying more than just shipping everything to one.

Also, when you plan to wc your gpu, you may need to drain out and redo the loop again unless you got excess tubings with QDC connected.

But nevertheless its your choice.

Distilled water cannot anyhow buy. Some distilled water still have ions and impurities left over when distillation takes place. Although by right it should not have. But somehow some residues are left behind.

As what monikernemo mentioned, you will need to add bioxide. You cant add too much nor too little.

Talk to you more when you pass me your chip ba.

Actually the most heat is produced by gfx card , if u just water cool cpu like no point le

Even new one need to flush?
Flushing same right? Use distilled water?

Ah thanks. It's the rad that I'm concern about cause after reading, cannot find anything that says which is IN and which is OUT. So I presume either way.

As this is my first time, so thought of doing 1 block first.

Because my Predator 240 kena recalled and EKWB giving full refund including shipping cost. So I take it as a chance for me to try custom loop.

The EK coolant concentrate I bought stated already biocide added so no need liao. Only mix with distilled water. So now I not sure where to get distilled water. Those Watsons one or car battery one can trust? :s13:

Yes. As mentioned, this is a test run first. To get some experience.

Further down the road, I intend to try hard tubing so now learn the basic first like the setup, installation, flushing, leak test, etc.

Because since married and now with a boy already, I had since given up on night life, chiong with bros, etc etc.

So must find something to do... :(

I have 20l+++ left worth of deionized water. But once open and pour out you will need to fill into the loop immediately.

Where to buy? :o

I mean I reckon I may need more? Like for flushing and all that. SO better know where to buy a proper distilled water.

I'll install the hardware slowly first, meantime take out chip pass to you.

Flush don't need use Distilled bah can use tap. But you may want to use some vinegar (artificial, not the bachormee one) to dissolve impurities.

Use warm water to flush bah since increases solubility and can remove some of the nonsense in radiator.

Read alphacool alot of sai inside. So need thorough cleaning...

For me hopefully my loop can be up by this half...

Ok. Suddenly got a question.

Flushing is referring to just the rad? Or install everything liao then flush the whole loop?

20l is more than enough. My rig wash + refill + wash + refill again still take 10l++.

Deionized water can get from mandai estate. He sells nothing but water. Comes in 5l or 30l. Your loop should not take more than 2l. Considering mine took 3.5l
