WD 1TB Hard disk not detected.

My WD Hard disk suddenly stopped working (last year) while I was using it. It was at the midst of transferring files when the problem arose. After I closed the program and restarted everything, my hard disk cannot be detected anymore. Suddenly. Cannot be detected as in, when I plug the cable in, the WDHD vibrates for a few seconds (usually after that, the autorun will come in) and stopped. It does not show in My Computer, as well as Disk Mgmt. I tried TestDisk and it's not detected as well. I have only used the HD for LESS than a year when this happened. I have not dropped it before. Totally have no idea why this happened. I contacted WD, they sent me a new cable, but it still does not work. I tried it on different laptops and computers and still, not detected. Recovery is very expensive, and I would like to know if there's any solutions to this. Please offer some suggestions. Thanks!

if it cannot detect the drive at all then there is very little u can do. i would suggest updating the firmware for the USB controller especially for USB3.0 drives if u are able to detect it. normally ur problem sounds like not enough power to the drive. but if u tried other USB ports and still no use then sounds like ur drive may hv died. RMA

Does that mean there's no way to salvage it anymore? But it's quite ridiculous. Less than a year, and never dropped it before. I seldom use it too!

That depend on how much you are willing to pay to recover the data.

salvage the data, pay alot of $$$. the drive since less than 1 yr go RMA it.

seldom use is a contributing factor to failure. HDD like to spin. there are research conducted on large corporations with lots of PCs. Studies show that HDD running at higher but not too high temps last longer than HDD running at lower temps. Also if a HDD is on more consistently rather than intermittently, it will last longer. fyi use =/= stress test

Firstly if your is a all in one hdd, with casing by WD n stuff, once u open it up n take the hdd for data recovery. There goes yr warranty

Usually the charges for data recovery around $150 > for 2x 4.7GB disk.
