WD mybook 4tb is not recognize by my PC suddenly. The power light is ok, USB port on motherboard is fine with other devices plug in. I remove the HDD from the box under the guidance of youtube and use a docking station to read the HDD. HDD is recognize on device & drive manager but of course it's encrptyed and appears as raw & unallocated. I suspect the pcb controller board might need replacement. I did some research & it seems even replacing the same pcb board with the same numbers(backward compatible in some new model) might not 100% work in getting it to read the encrpyted data inside and the pcb board is not cheap costing $100+.

So I would like to know if I format the disk using docking station, would I be able to use the HDD normally? TIA

How would you like to use this HDD moving forward? Through a docking station or you plan on putting it into a PC?

Whichever you choose the recommend path forward would be to repartition the HDD and perform a full format to validate that the drive is working correctly. This of course means that any data you had on the drive will be permanently lost.

From the opening of this thread I was under the assumption that this would have been a data recovery question!

I dont think its possible to do data recovery since it's encrpyted, the data inside is not worth spending the money although if there's a free or cheaper way, I dont mind trying.
If the disk can still be use, most probably would be to put it inside my pc after reformatting using it as a backup for videos, songs, etc but it still hurts losing the data inside
