We have been misinformed for the longest time about the British 🇬🇧 defence of Singapore

Taking a break from the RK saga here.
In history class, we were taught that the British installed batteries cannot point in the direction of the North.

However this is a false. The guns could point north. They however could not be as effective because they were for naval warfare, not land based warfare.

It is one thing to say that the guns were poorly designed , it’s another to say that they were not compatible for the type of warfare.

It is however correct to say that they did not give us enough resources, us being the colony of singapore. Churchill gave assurances early in the war to both Australia and New Zealand that defending Singapore would take precedence over British defense of the Mediterranean. But late 1941 found Britain in a fight for its life in a war against both Germany and Italy. Singapore did not receive what was planned or was promised. It got what could be spared, a squadron known as Force Z.

I would say Japanese momentum was too strong. ‘Impregnable’ singapore would have taken another 50 extra days and 20000 deaths before the Japanese take over.

During WWII if there was no war in europe with germany and the axis powers, the UK and US allies entire forces could focus solely on reaching singapore naval base for resupply and repairs to protect their interests in the far east in malaya, philippines and china by basing their main base in singapore.

Farquhar was the one tasked with setting up the place as a trading port. In an era where decision-making took weeks and months, he had to make most of the on-ground decisions.

Brits has 3 times the manpower should be able to hold out the northern straits with ample fortifications, trenches and huge machine guns and massive cannons placements, against the impending Jap land advances from malaya while waiting for naval reinforcements and supplies from the southern sea ports from Britishindia and australia back then all under Brits? Then the allies US can send reinforcements and supplies from pearl harbor and hawaii, there are minimally 3 battle groups of aircraft carriers were nearby in the area.
