Weatherproof and mild shock proof camera?

Hi

I'm going to taiwan later this year and my current cheapo point and shoot died on me during my trip to phuket.

I've tried googling for weather proof camera's but all I get are these tough cameras like the Lumix TS5 and Olympus TG3. I need something which can handle rain and some splashes as well as minor drops(I have a 3 year old son). Also I'll be visiting the hot springs and I am afraid steam and condensation might be somethings I need to be concerned about

I found out that the Olympus OMD E1 is weatherproof and can handle some splashes and rain but its a little bit over my budget. Which is around $800.

I was doing a little more research on what camera to buy and I saw that the Olympus OM-D E-M5 is being sold for around $900 with a 12-50mm lense at Cameraparadise website.

Its splash proof, from what I checked. Are there any other weatherproof DSLR options for my budget? Which I can maybe buy from a brick and motar store locally? Would the price difference be alot?

Are you ready to go interchangeable lenses? 12-50mm is only a 4.167x zoom and definitely none of the bodies and lenses are shock/drop proof.

Weatherproof / splash proof is also dependent on lens. 12-50 is weatherproof, but only 2 other lenses will be weatherproof with EM5 - 60 and 12-40.

flash is also a separate attachment so it might be a concern for your 3year old son.

Perhaps you should stick with tough point-&-shoots if drop proof is a concern.

Camera options, you can consider Panasonic Lumix TZ40 with long 20X zoom, gps and nfc.

Photographyblog recommended camera with 5 stars out of 5 stars.

It is sufficiently weatherproof and survived Alaska photography. But with any camera's that are not built to be shock-proof, please try NOT to drop them or damage is just inevitable.

Interchangeable lens system camera just has more moving parts that dropping is not an option.
