I've read in some American style forums that brands such as A&F, H&M, GAP, Uniqlo are "mall brands" which are worn only teenagers and youths in their early 20s. What do they mean by "mall brands"? So, what are the non-mall brands in America?

By the meanings of the individual words, mall brands would refer to stores that are commonly seen in shopping malls. In other words, they are big franchises.
I would think the opposite are boutiques, that only have one or two outlets.
