Is Masterpass basically like an electronic wallet, something like PayPal or one of the many similar systems? Or just a way of paying online without having to input your CC number each time?

I checked out their mini-site but it doesn't explain much.

It should be same concept as Visa Paywave.

It is something like paypal where you can store your credit card no ( Visa, master or Amex etc) and your shipping address. Makes online purchase easier as you dont need to enter all these info everytime you make a purchase.

I added my Imagine Amex card :)

Actually its not like paypal, its not an e-wallet which can store credits. Its a cut-down version which allow you to store credit cards information.

Masterpass is aggregator of credit card payment options. It is similar from this perspective to Paypal but the difference is that it does not have its own funding option and there not an option to transfer funds from current/savings account.

In short - an electronic wallet to keep multiple credit cards for payment option.

Apologies for digging up old thread.... never really used Masterpass after leeching to get the initial promo items.

Was revisiting its usage last weekend. Wondering if anyone here would have an idea if it also works like paypal which "masks" your card details from the merchant or is Masterpass purely working as a "shortcut" whereby its only usefulness is that you don't need to keep keying in your credit card details.

I dun think it can mask from merchants. If so, merchant claim $ from who?

I see it akin to putting credit card in our wallet and using it to swipe at ntuc, robinsons, golden village etc. U dont need to rem the card numbers n cvv. Jus that this wallet is an electronic one. :)

Sent from ew line is so sloooow using GAGT

One question. Imagine Amex input into masterpass will still be treated as an Amex card during payment right?

one thing to note..

posb everyday gives 1% for comfort/city cab transactions.

i tied my masterpass with posb and book a cab and paid with masterpass.. posb didnt give me 1%, although my transaction shows "comfort citiycab"

i hv to write in and they adjust for me..

backend system seems different..

But then dash need SCB savings account or Singtel account right?

You *could* head down to Singtelshop or 7-11 and top up at counter, but that kind of misses the point of making things easier ...
