M.2 SSDs has two forms (key B+M and M), and can either transmit PCIe 2.0 x4 or 3.0 x4 or SATA. "normal" SSDs only transmits up to SATA 6Gbps through a SATA connector.

Main difference is speed. PCIe is faster. But usually the speed difference from HDD to a "normal" SSD is bigger than from a "normal" SSD to an NVMe SSD. Also both "normal" and M.2 SSDs use flash memory.

So easy answer: no diff, hard answer: very diff. Now go google some wiki.

M.2 is usually for tablets and smaller devices ...most got better performance than cheap ssd.

Normal ssd is cheaper though , if ya getting it for normal pc build ssd is sufficient .

Tablets do not use m.2 for very obvious reasons.

In many cases a good m.2 is same price or cheaper than SSD drives that can be slower to much slower

Windows tablets or slim laptop with high specs uses them .

Not the cheap china brand android ones u buy at 100 bucks

Windows tablets and slim laptops use soldered down SSDs. M.2 lives only on laptops and ITX boards, and they are already started to be phased out on the former in place of soldered SSDs.
