What is the difference between CPU Cooler and CPU Liquid Cooler?
I'm looking at Cooler master V8GTS and Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme.
Which one is better?

Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme = closed loop liquid cooled

i would say aio still not that good at the moment. if going wc, go full custom. if not go noctua, probably the best heatsink cooler you can find in the market at the moment in terms of spec and quality. quality is top notch, cant be beaten, though you have to pay abit of small premium.

V9GTS is air cooling and thermal take water extreme is closed loop water Cooling..

Dont need WC unless you are doing extreme OC. Even so, some air coolers perform even better than WC. Only custom WC can perform better.

V8gts is a heatsink air cooled.

Thermaltake extreme is a water cooled system.

Both have its pros and cons.

If you ain't overclocking you do not need either one. An Intel heatsink fan will do just fine.

Currently, am on stock HSF. Is it necessary to change HSF? Cos i can only get one about 80mm tall, only low profile ones can fit into my casing.
I wont be overclocking, just heavy gaming.

their nh d14 is on par with most closed loop liquid coolers

I find that for asus wise... it's the distributor here that are marking up prices. if you look at their stuff on amazon it's priced similarly as the rest

Which cools better? In general, liquid coolers.

Which is more expensive? Liquid coolers again.

Which allows installation of tall RAM? Liquid coolers.

Which is better? I'd say depends.

Degree for degree, liquid coolers make more noise. They may also require specific cases for proper installation due to the radiator dimension. Air coolers are much simpler to operate in comparison. The main point of failure is the fan/s, whereas there is coolant leakage, pump pressure, and the fan/s to worry about in a liquid setup.

Depends on your needs also.

If you're just going for light usage - net surfing and playing games? the intel stock cooler would do

If you're going for max cpu usage without overclocking, an Air cooler like the CM 212 Hyper X would do the job.

Closed loop Cooling systems are meant for overclocking.

At idle temps the difference is negligible

Not recommendable for the start. It requires you to take out the air cooler from the gpu and replace it with a water cooled setup. It may void the warranty if it has a local distributor stickers on the screw. Some may have some may not. And usually people whom does it is using a custom water cooled.

Requires a few hundreds of dollars to do it. If it is a mid tier or low end card it isnt worth it.
