What PSU to get?

sorry to hijack ure thread, but i would like opinion

my PSU is seasonic m12ii 620w psu evo edition

is it enuff for following

AMD 8350
CROSSHAIR FORMULA Z MOBO
POWERCOLOR 7970
3 HDD
1 SSD
1 DVD/R
5 FANS (2 fan push/pull radiator, 2 fans input air, 1 top exaust)

Should i change, some psu calculator counting abt 478W total load...so 180w clearance ok rite?

Enough though, but for bronze PSU I would discount them at 80% due to their efficiency.
620*.8=496 - Just nice.
Should consider a gold one and above for higher headroom, then again if no budget should be fine, if that 620is old PSU cna consider changing too.

No, you don't discount it that way. 80% efficiency means 620W = 775W @ socket.

The PSU will still produce max of 620W.

Your concept on PSU efficiency is completely wrong. See kingtiger2014's post.

You only reduce the overall PSU power output based on operating temperature (aka derating) and maybe some factor for cap aging.

I was like that long time ago when those corrected me here.

Like what he has mentioned 620w it will still produce 620w. Whatever pulled from the wall more, is produced as heat.

Talking about PSU, if that is the case, isn't it s little pointless to go beyond gold, or even bronze? Provided the capacitors are of solid quality.

Theres a difference.

80+
Bronze 80+
Silver 80+
Gold 80+
Platinum 80+

The higher you go the lesser heat it will be converted out. You will draw lesser power from the wall to produce whatever wattage PSU you buy. And of cause also depends on the rating whether is it true or not.

And if you kinda noticed in local market the price to buy a 80+ vs a Gold 80+ is really too close.

For example,

FSP Hexa 550w 80+ cost around $6X

FSP Aurum S 500w 80+ Gold/Superflower HX500 500w 80+ Gold cost around $8X

And im sure the 2 models of gold PSU there are people whom gotten it at $6X before.

EDIT: And to add on, to us in SG our electricity bills are still so cheap as compared to certain parts of another country. So to them when they buy PSU the ratings certified will be critical to them.

Can't see properly....is it the normal form-factor kind of psu since it's from a branded pc maker own casing? U do know psu have different physical size apart from ratings and wattage....rite?
