I'm just curious with what i can do with current cash on hand 10k. :s11:

should i go with CIMB fixed deposit for 12mths ?(safest?)
Basically , i have no knowledge on investment or any other kind of method of obtaining $.

Would like to know how should i start and towards which direction i should venture into.

I have my emergency backup of a sum of money , don't worry.

Open to high risk or low risk stuffs , not an issue for me to try out stuffs..

please advise , many thanks !

My advice to you is put your money into a Fixed Deposit first,

Take the next 1 year to learn about value investing, portfolio investing and dividend investing. Once you ready, decide how you want to invest and then start.

You should set aside some money for emergency approximately 3 to 6 months of your pay.

After which the excess money can be use for investment. If you do not know how to invest, maybe you want to use POSB invest scheme or OCBC blue chips plan first to buy into shares of companies.

In the meanwhile just sign up with any brokers, UOB Kay Hian, OCBC securities and they have free seminars, just attend those to find out more...

SGX also organise free seminars to attend.

If you have absolutely no idea about shares, I would advise you not to buy shares until you have a clearer idea.

High risk means high probability of losing the principal. Are you really up to that? It's easy to say but think carefully how you would feel if you were to lose 4 to 5k or more.

Buying shares of banks to earn dividend is possible but you must know how to judge the point of entry (buying price) or you will end up losing capital if the market moves against you.

Hi , yes high risk i meant medium. which judging from 10k wise 3k losses are fine with me. yes i want to start learning by buying bank or telco shares. means to open a CDP account and buy lots(1000) and wait for the pay out ? how is the payout like , how do i calculate when to enter ? judge from yahoo share prices daily?

Thanks for your advice :)

Yeap i've already set aside 3 - 6 months of my pay already. The 10k is my excess money which i want to invest instead of buying funds from organisation. OCBC BCIP looks good for long term but i dont understand how they go about since it will go into CDP account eventually. i want to understand if i can buy 500 shares instead of a lot instead ? possible ? so i can constantly put my spare cash on them.

have plans to go to kay hian to find out more . just want to hear advices online too

OCBC BCIP never go into your CDP account... the bank will hold the shares for you. If you want the shares to be transfered to your CDP account, you need to put up a request at a fee.

Currently, shares are traded at 1000, you can buy 500 shares but it is less easy to sell. Unless they implement trading at 100 shares per lot... malaysia shares are traded at 100 per lot.

Intially when I started to buy shares, I always call up my broker and ask them questions if there is anything I dont understand, they are very helpful.

It will be easier to understand the stock market if you have business/finance/accounting background.

You can start by reading up on fundamental analysis. Practice paper trade (no money involved, just pretend and track the performance of your "portfolio") and when you first go into the market, start small.

It really depends how long you will need this money again.

Rule of Thumb. If you need all this money in N years, then at its maximum, only N*10% can be equity. The rest can be bond funds.

You can consider FSM because it has the lowest charge.

10k. Interested to pool in small investments. Anyways, in any case there are land investments opportunities everywhere. It might reek of mlm but as long as money is coming in regularly and the amount exceeds that of the 10k, it shouldn't be a problem. Take and leave!

If you want to pool can tell me if not you should listen to te seminar. The mlms haven't peaked yet so you take and leave. Beats speculating in stocks when stocks are pretty much a rich man manipulated game

Ocbc has several unit trust. Invest in Vietnam which reaps rewards but there are always risk.

Pool money with you?

How to make sure you don't take the money and run away.

Frankly, I don't know you well enough to trust you with my money.

Beside, if you have to come here to ask for money, makes me very wary of you.

I rather take my chances with stock market and unit trusts. Their risk is a lot lower than giving money to you.
