What to do with $18K?

obviously can't get into NUS or any singapore uni because it's filled with FT

but sadly i can't do that in my country just because I'm not academically inclined.

OT abit but if you know you're not academically inclined, do something else other than study. I know many that have succeeded in life despite not having a degree. Its your attitude in life that counts.

And just to be clear, NUS NTU are filled with FTs only in mostly engineering courses and to a certain extend science course. Business course are dominated by locals. You are not able to make it into a local uni cause your result is not good, don't blame the FTs. And it is not your given right to study in a local university just because you are a local. If the local uni does not exact a standard from their students, then what is the point of even going to said university.

Its the same reason why you refuse to go to SIM. Because you think it has a lower standard. And the reason is because SIM has a lower barrier of entry. Would you still want to go to Harvard if it allow anyone with 3 Cs in A level into it?

When i was 16 i was playful i didn't know education is impt. i didn't know having a degree was impt. but i still passed my o levels. so i choose what i like, FASHION MARKETING AND MERCHANDISING.

i' have a diploma in FMM, but i won't get accepted in local universities. I did what i like and i didn't regret it at all. i really couldn't picture myself doing Science and writing a report on history and reading up for my GP.

I blame FT is because i feel, LOCAL UNI have to prioritise local first. If your own citizen can't get first class education, how is the nation going to progress while the foreigners are getting our first class education.

And lastly, i refused to go to sim because it's not what i want. Firstly please read my post that if possible i want a campus lifestyle, big campus, filled with activities. ETC ETC.

If you DARE to look far and wide, then may I suggest University of Cape Town, South Africa. Still in the top 150 Uni ranking; trashed & still trashing most of the Aussie unis too and definately your idea of "big campus". Its literally at the foot of Table Mountain. Go see its site to see if there's a suitable degree for you.

And yes, Im pursuing my post-grad there.

I believe i have a good attitude, i have a great paying job for my level and age, and i worked hard for it to get this particular job. I have started investing at 20, and i wished i started at 18.

When i was 16 i was playful i didn't know education is impt. i didn't know having a degree was impt. but i still passed my o levels. so i choose what i like, FASHION MARKETING AND MERCHANDISING.

I'm not bashing to make myself feel better. I just think your arguments are flawed.

The local unis do priorities locals first. That is why a big percentage of the university consist of locals. Like I say, business school is dominated by almost all locals. How else do you prefer them to prioritise local? be a 100% local university? Even Harvard Cambridge and MIT accepts international students. It is not like they are accepting foreigners with worse result than locals and prioritising them over locals. I really don't understand how your situation is even remotely the fault of unis accepting FTs.

I am speaking out because I realise more and more people in Singapore have the opinion that everything is everyone's fault but theirs. For most of us, where we are in our life is largely due to the choices we have made. Some are good, some are bad. What is important is how we should be going forward and not 怨天尤人.

Campus life can indeed be exciting in a large and vibrant campus. There is nothing wrong in wanting to enjoy yourself while pursing higher education but the main point of doing a degree is still to add value to yourself. Paying much much more to go overseas just to experience vibrant campus life as opposite to doing a local DL degree is the exact opposite of adding value. It is one thing if the degree is much more valuable than one you can get locally but I would highly doubt so.

Having a degree is only important if you're after job security (to me). I get washed out in school as the value add to me is minimal.
I'm not looking for job security; but rather financial security.

Actually if you were to think about it, Singapore is a very small country, for bigger countries with more resources, they have 1st grade Universities, 2nd Grade, 3rd grade and so on to accommodate more students. Of course, degrees from lower grade universities are not as good as the first grader.

If Singapore were to allow Singaporeans with not so good grades to enter local universities, it would be as good as bringing the level of standard down as a whole, which doesn't do anyone good. Many locals would have degrees but it would basically be very much worthless, and thats not the point. With limited resources, the government and the universities just want to make every degree worth while. Thats why you see NTU,NUS,SMU are on global ranking, considered prestigious in the region.

To look from another perspective, if local universities are just crappy and with no standard ,if they were to invite you to enrol , will you do so? Will you waste your time to get a degree locally? Think about it .
