What's my bottleneck here?

Running the following laptop + eGPU setup

Intel i7-8565U
8gb ram (how do i check if ram is already soldered on without opening pc?)
Nvidia MX160 (built in)
NVIDIA Asus Strix 1080 (razer core x)

What's my bottleneck here? It wont even allow me smooth gaming in Overwatch with FPS in medium settings. I get about 130 FPS in medium and then it stutters down to 70-90 and then back up to 130 again after awhile

2. 8GB RAM is low.
3. The 8565 is a 15W laptop CPU that is not meant for high performance.

The RAM is most likely the issue here! You need at least 16GB of RAM these days,...

my closest guess would be your cpu. It's a 15W and though it's 4c8t, it can only turbo up to 2ghz. What is inside your core x again?

Its a geforce gtx 1080 in the core x enclosure.

What's your thermal while gaming? It's most probably CPU getting throttled.

And you have your monitor connected to the 1080?

Your symptoms sound like CPU throttling + lack of RAM.

You can check if it's soldered by looking at reviews / tech details of your model.

Both are the issue. Your laptop is not designed for high, prolonged thermal load, your CPU is the low power 15w part and your RAM is the bare minimum for day to day office work.

Suspect is CPU overheat?
Use an in game system monitoring software like
MSI Afterburner
