looking at klipsch or sonos, but really no experience whatsoever
any recommendations?
would a soundbar + sub or a traditional 2.1 make more sense for computer use?

also saw wireless bluetooth being the trend.
wont that cause some lag between audio and visual playback?

looking for klipsch promedia 2.1 replacement

There is no best. Depends on your usage and what is your priority, Look nice and compact? Mini soundbar or small computer speakers. Looking for best sound quality while sitting at your compuater for critical listening or creative purposes? I'd get a pair of active studio monitors. Can try a pair of yamaha hs7, with a pair of these, you probably will not need a sub. https://homedjstudio.com/yamaha-hs7-review/

am wary of those bookshelfs, built in amp/subs cause had never tried before
loving my old promedia 2.1 with the sub, but subs these days costs a bomb
logitech z625 is the closet thing to promedia 2.1, but i cant really tell without hearing it out :s13:

so question is would those bookshelf speakers sound better than logitechs z625's tiny speakers with subs?

Share to you my desktop audiophile setup. You can see there is a Sonos Playbase underneath my Samsung TV and a couple of Dali Oberon 3s to the side with a small Sabaj A10A amp nearby the left speaker. EVGA Nu Audio in my PC provides the DAC and there is an additional Creative T3 Subwoofer attached to the amp if I want that extra bass when watching movies or gaming.

I used to use Creative T3 and Gigaworks T40 prior to investing in this setup. And trust me, massive massive difference. Bookshelf speakers are totally worth it to have. The Sonos Playbase is pretty decent, but the Dali totally blows it out of the water.

You got few options.

Least headache option - get a AIO solution like a soundbar or active bookshelves with DAC built in. I guess you can consider my Sonos Playbase a soundbar. It is pretty good, but bass is lacking and sound is not that vibrant. I tested other soundbars, you really need the size for the big soundstage and bass. So may not be exactly practical if you are just putting it on the desk. For bookshelves you can try Klipsch R41PM or Audioengine A2+ or A5+. You can perhaps repurpose your Klipsch Promedia sub to add more bass if you decide to go this route like what I do with my T3 sub.

Slightly less headache option - get an integrated amplifier with DAC built in then pair with bookshelves. Chifi stuff are pretty good nowadays if you don't want to splurge on brands like Marantz. SMSL DA9 is a popular and cost effective DAC/AMP combo. Plenty of options for speakers from $400-$1000. Just go to Adelphi and audition. I love my Dali, but there are other cheaper bang for buck speakers from brands such as Elac, Triangle, Wharfedale also. You can also repurpose your sub for this setup.

More headache option - DAC/Soundcard -> Pre-amp -> Amp -> Speakers+Sub. I use this setup minus pre-amp. Most customisable and you can upgrade individual component one by one. But the sound is of course is potentially mind-blowing and worth investing. Good luck to your hunt for audio nirvana.

nice thanks for sharing
not too technical in sound so prefer to just get a whole set then works a blast out of the box :s13:
unfortunately i'm doing this hunt cause the promedia sub dead. suddenly. but its cool cause its been a very long.
and i read that the satellite speakers and sub are a set so, cant just replace the sub. :(
ya probably cld try bookshelf speakers as well just sad to burn a hole in the pocket :s13:

Since you already had a Promedia your options for better audio quality would be limited. z625 for example will sound like completely unacceptable trash.

Most TV soundbars are not meant for desktop simply due to size. A 27" monitor has a width of 60cm. Most TV soundbars are bigger than that and usually close to 1m. A soundbar for PC, like Creative Stage, is 55cm, which is still awkward with a 25" screen. I'd say go for soundbar only if you already planned for it e.g. Mounted your monitor on a wall.

Lag from normal BT is around 200ms, low-latency codec is around 50ms.

If you no space e.g. you can't put a 5 to 6-inch bookshelf speakers, and you are a basshead, stick to 2.1
If you have space, get a 5 to 6-inch bookshelf speakers
If you are not a basshead, you can get a slightly smaller bookshelf speakers

For perspective, this is how much you can expect from the Promedia in a room at different bass knob levels.

Tiagong, if your monitor got hdmi eArc, get Sonos arc + sub + 2 rear speakers. Monitor use Lg 48C1. Best movie, gaming and sound experience.

Sonos Arc is long and besides the size issue, large soundbars and floorstanders are not meant for near-field listening. A 2.1 bookshelves+sub are still best for desktop use.

Hmm… Sonos got the true play tuning, but yes do agree that near-field may not be as good, maybe Sonos beam?

as for 2.1 any recommendation you have? I like Sonos because of airplay function, which most speakers don’t have, closest I can find is Kef lsx or audio engine A5+ plus the airplay adapter.

I have the Sonos Playbase and frankly speaking the Airplay function is pretty much identical to typical Bluetooth connection so even if you change to other Bluetooth capable speaker like Kef there should be no difference in function. Airplay is definitely a must for TV set though.

Well, slightly higher than Promedia got Bose Companion 50. If willing to spend a bit more, Klipsch store on Lazada got offer bundles of bookshelves+sub. Or you can just get A5+ and get a sub from Klipsch or Tannoy. Actually after researching more, I think Sonos is really kind of overpriced for the sound quality they give because at their price point the competition is better though might not have as much features or ease of use as them. Before my Dalis, I bought a couple of NHT C1s and a cheap Chinese FX-Audio amp. The difference in the quality between this setup and my Playbase is night and day man even though the overall cost is lower. So it's really worth it spending more effort rather than just buy AIO if you really want ultimate bang for the buck.

Personally, I am currently using sonos arc / 2 x Ones / Sub Gen 3 + LG C1 55"

I feel that in terms of audio after true play tuning...it is serving me well..especially when stream dolby atmos content..

Dialogue is clear and sound effects are good..

Previously was using JBL Bar5.1 4k...didn't feel it as good.

Having tv passthru audio signal is critical to have good audio.

Yup, if main usage is movie I think buy a Sonos set is a safe bet and easy to set up. If main usage is listening to music, then can go down the rabbit hole and start exploring all the niche brands for speakers and amplifiers. I realise now with my new Dalis I spend a lot more time just listening to music and reading a book.

I feel those traditional speaker companies going to sound bar is trying to make a quick buck. JBL has major market share in cinema and concert. Pro or studio line good, others not so imho
Their headphones also sucks.

JBL and Sonos good enough for most people ba. I think to appreciate the more niche audio brands you do need to have a much more varied musical taste and some aural training.
