Recently i bought a new sapphire HD 7850 to replace my faulty GTX 580 GPU card. But after installing the new card, i notice some weird spots on my firefox screen most of the time when i open a new tab. What could be the problem?

Are you using the latest drivers? read from the posts before at guru3d forums that the issue is caused by the newer drivers

Thanks. It works a charm. But by disabling hardware acceleration on Firefox, would it affect the general performances like viewing hd videos on youtube..etc?

Hardware acc supposedly uses the gpu to speed up web browsing when it is needed, turning it off just makes it utilize cpu instead. Doing so should not have any adverse effects. Take it as a temporary fix until amd fixes this issue. I read that any driver version after 12.10 reproduces this artifact issue for firefox on the 7850, some people reported it on other 7000 series cards as well.

If it irks you too much, you can just use another web browser :s12:

Hmmm. So is it a hardware issue or just a driver issue for me? does exchanging a new card solves the problem for your friend?
