Not sure if anyone else experience this..
any help appreciated

I received 2 videos from my fren on Whatsapp on iPhone 5S
Sent from iphone 5 on iOS7

the videos came out as grey fuzzy images
so i tried taking 2 videos and sent to myself
also ended up as grey fuzzy images

so i rebooted and tried again
now the images came thru but there is a noticeable drop in video quality

when i send to myself via Whatsapp, 2 videos get logged in the chat, the one sent out (was okay) but the one received (was slightly fuzzy).. noticeable drop in quality

anyone experience this also?

Its compression technique that the app uses to reduce file size ... u dont have choice in that except sound out smaller videos

The recent WhatsApp update has brought compression of videos and even images to the next level :s22:

the other issue with then is sometimes when bringing up the keyboard, there's a gap between the keyboard and the text box.

yup, same issue with me. Whatsapp really need to fix their apps. They also the one of the slowest to update/enhance. I think they didn't scale nicely

how is that a good thing?
The Good :
WhatsApp saves on bandwidth.

The Bad :
Images/Videos sent through WhatsApp looks like crap.

Resolution :

1. Ditch WhatsApp. Use some other messaging platform like say... iMessage to get your images etc sent across.
2. Upload image to Dropbox. Send link using WhatsApp

I would stick to 1.

every messaging platform will do data compression. Even imessage. if you want uncompressed data, just upload to file sharing (eg: dropbox, etc) then send the link

Just use AirDrop is you are transferring between iPhone 5 and 5s. Fast and secured. File transferred in full size too.

That is correct.
But at least iMessage's compression is reasonable.
If I am not wrong Whatsapp even tries to resize your images.

I love iMessage because it allows animated GIFs :)

Video sending to myself on 5S or from another 5 to 5S

All good .. no such grey thing ... try a different video as well, maybe the format is such that Whatsapp compression is spoiling it
