Thisissue happen to a number of Xiaomi phone I happen to use. Redmi 1s, Mi4i, Redmi note 2.
Seem ok with Mi Max, Samsung s4, Note 4, s7.
Using same charger and USB cable.

If you use thse 2 pin USB charger, try to to reverse the 2 pin AC cable see if problem go away.

Can be done using ADB command.

Display current display setting:
adb shell dumpsys display

Change the DPI, replace 420 with your own DPI:
adb shell wm density 420

Reset the DPI and size to default:
adb shell wm density reset
adb shell wm size reset

I don't change resolution unless stock has that option becos it can mess up badly and alot of testing needed. Some apps may crash or text may not show up or looks weird so I just stick to stock and adjust text when needed.

On the other hand, using another launcher like Nova can do more customizations on home and app drawer like icons, size, gestures, etc. I use Nova now on all my phone to get the same look on all my phones :D

I'm using the nilikin one.
Not full coverage so can see border, but edges are super smooth so it doesn't bother me. If not for the tiny mistake I made, the SP would have looked like it was part of the design of the phone.
Add a case with slightly raised edge and there's little chance the "unprotected" edges will get scratches.

Another question will be that will you send a phone full of personal data in 64G or 128G internal over to a service person for a few hours or days?

Uh basically any Internet connected device are sharing information to a service person, if you treasure privacy then it's best to get disconnected from the Internet.
