I think most use it when they are using aftermarket GPU heatsinks like the Accelero or morpheus.

Those should alrdy come with the special gpu 4 pin connector instead of pwm? Nvr try those before although i toyed the idea previously before starting wc.

only rog strix cards come with case fan headers out of the factory, and since they are generally prohibitively more expensive not a lot of people have it. I got my strix rx580 on the cheap and the fan headers do work. they happen to be controllable too, u can set fan curves for your case fans. I personally use it cos my mobo doesn't have enough fan headers and it seems pretty cool, though I only found out about it a year after I got it :s13:

Using gelid pwm fan adapter to plug 2x120 noctuas on my gtx1080

Thank you, let me check this out.

And yes, I deshrouded my Zotac 2080 and I'm running 2x Noctua F12s. Currently connected to my motherboard chassis fan header running at full speed, so I'm looking for the adapter in order to make use of the GPU PWM fan headers as well.

I bought argus monitor. Its a fan controller software for Windows. Can detect gpu temp and use motherboard header to control those noctua fan. Too bad my current motherboard not really compliant. So change to using gpu fan header for pwm fan control.

The reason i use chassis fan for gpu is for quieter operation with better performance.

In the past we would connect the aftermarket GPU fan to the mainboard and use something like Speedfan that can also read GPU temperature and do things from there.

The two connectors pictured actually has the same pin pitch, so it is not uncommon to see people plugging the fans with the left connector to the socket of the right connector. The problem is the opposite is harder since the left connector has shorter pins and a more restricted socket. What people do is remove the plastic cover by prying with a screwdriver.

If you either know how to do crimping yourself or up for a challenge, you can either go to Sim Lim Tower, look for
JST 4 pin connectors, or get it online 4 Pin JST connector (10 sets of 4P),
the JST connector comes with the cable so at the other end you can use these secure fan connectors 4pin fan connectors (10 sets of 4P) then this is to sleeve the cable

total damage less than 10 bucks and you get to keep spares for next time.

as for pins readouts or blue print. you can see on your GPU it will state + or - or sometimes is +12v and on the connectors itself. you will see numbers like 1 to 4

Pin 1 = Gnd
Pin 2 = 12volts
Pin 3 = Temp Sensor
Pin 4 = Fan speed controller.

more explanation about fan pins, watch this. https://youtu.be/76A1HJnTV6c?t=479 and if you need help on crimping, pm me and I will guide you on it :)

and reason why I do know about this.. is I watch and gather alot of info from google, youtube.. and I done this :)

Thanks, I was looking for the name of the connector but I didn't put in too much effort. Will do that!
