Where to get hardware for NAS server?

I'm looking to build a home NAS setup for long term backup. I have some ideas of the parts I want, but don't there are some where I don't know where to look for in Singapore.

Mainly wondering where to get mobo by supermicro, and a cpu compatible with it. Also wondering where to get HBAs.

Use Synology, QNAP, or Asustor NAS unless u have specific reasons to build a file server.

If can, wait for the shows like the upcoming Sitex in Nov 2016.. should be able to grab a better NAS + HDD combo..

Will look into Sitex for some deals on the HDDs.

One of the reasons for building one myself is simply because I want to learn how to do it from scratch. I'm ok with taking my time to learn and experiment with it.

well if u have a few spare parts at home oso can make into a NAS server (DIY type) just need to have a pc with build in gpu and get a raid controler and extended sata card den u have more sata port, but also need the mobo have raid support as well, else u just use normal backup system.

u mention getting a hba. is the ~6 ports built into any modern intel mobo insufficient?

or r u planning to go sas/more than 6 drives?

If you're looking at 4 bay, HP microserver is good. Get Toshiba X300's from Amazon, cheap, fast and reliable.

Most of the low end nas with less than 4 drives are cheaper than DIY.
