Yes its stored in a small dry box with silicon dessicants. But still kena in the end.
The silica gel might have been saturated with moisture hence, they might have lost their effectiveness. By the way, the blue/pink type is toxic.
Our humidity is about 70% on normal days and possibly higher during wet weather. So I keep at around 40% humidity in my dry box and hopefully, it will keep the fungus and dust at arm's length.
If the cost of repair is too high, you might want to compare with the cost of buying good 2nd hand lens to replace. Usually, I prefer not to open a sealed fragile item.
